Visual Effects Artist job in Gearbox Entertainment, the developer of hit titles such as Borderlands, Brothers In Arms, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, is seeking a talented Visual Effects Artist.The Visual Effects Artist interacts directly with the Visual Effects Director, Art Directors, and Designers to create world class special effects that push technical boundaries and limitations of Unreal Engine 5, Xbox, and PlayStation.This role is open to VFX artists at mid-level or above.Responsibilities:Work with visual effects team to create impressive, real-time particle systems in Niagara.Build elegant materials in Unreal Engine 5 for particle systems and world geometry.Create memory efficient texture assets using programs like Adobe Photoshop, Substance Designer, Houdini, or Embergen.Produce basic 3D models, UV mapping, and simple animations when necessary.Participate in meetings to discuss the implementation of visual effects for the purpose of messaging gameplay concepts and meeting our aesthetic goals.Own the implementation of your FX, consistently play the game and improve effects as necessary to ensure you’re complimenting the gameplay & experience, you are the artist!Qualifications:Experience with Unreal Engine 5, 3DS Max (or Similar modeling tools), Substance Designer, Houdini, and Photoshop.Proven technical aptitude in common game / engine tools, you should understand the technical to execute the artisticIndependent, we want our artists to be driven and seek out solutions, needs from other departments’ efforts to punch up the experience, and improve their craftCollaborative, an important part of being a game maker is collaborating with other departments, FX artists will be collaborating frequently with game designers to identify needs and make the best experience possibleDemonstrable mastery of artistic concepts and common practices.Knowledge of limitations for console games with fixed technical specifications.Solid understanding of general art pipeline at a game studio.Driven to explore new technology, process, techniques, and styles.Bonus Points For:Previous experience as an effects artist either in real-time games or with pre-rendered cinematic content for TV, film, or games.Experience with Houdini, Embergen, FluidNinja, or other simulation tools.Associate’s (two year) or higher Art related degree or evident strong art skills and background.Experience with 2D or 3D animation.Background in scripting or programming (any language)Strong ability to create shaders/materialsBackground in 3D modelingWhy Join Us?Opportunity to work on exciting projectsTalented and collaborative teamStimulating and healthy work environmentOpportunities for professional development and career progression
