Houston Habitat has built more than 1,200 homes in 12 Houston neighborhoods, including the Fifth Ward, Clinton Park, Settegast, Sunnyside, and Carverdale. In addition to building, the organization has also repaired homes throughout Houston due to natural disasters; since Hurricane Harvey Houston Habitat has repaired more than 700 homes for families who are without resources to make repairs.

The communications manager will manage Houston Habitat's in-person, print, and web communications to ensure clear communication of our mission and program information. Across these channels, the manager will work cross-departmentally to ensure curated, tailored messages to potential homebuyers, donors, volunteers, and retail shoppers.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Manage and update the organization's website to ensure a regular stream of fresh content, SEO optimization, accessibility, navigability, and overall providing the best visitor experience in partnership with contract developers.Write copy for web and newsletter with attention to detail, ability to understand and employ brand tone and practice extremely good judgment.Create, edit, and maintain external presentation content for the Executive, Homeowner Services, and Development teams.Design and write copy for collateral materials like brochures, flyers, signage, and promotional goods. Work with vendors to obtain bids and produce items.Supervise communications consultants.Evaluate the efficacy of content across all communications channels.Evaluate and train staff to present accurate and effective messaging on behalf of Houston Habitat.Serve as a coordinator for in-person events, webinars, and virtual events using various platforms.Support organization communication and marketing activities.Requirements

Education, Experience & Skills Required

At least three (3) years of experience drafting web content and written communications for a nonprofit organization or company.Experience designing collateral materials that effectivelyMeticulous attention to detail, ability to understand and employ brand tone and practice extremely good judgment.Experience engaging in rapid response with the ability to work after hours and on weekends when necessary to ensure the timeliness of content updates.Excellent communication skills, both written, visual, and verbal.Demonstrated skill in copywriting and analyzing content performance.Proficiency in desktop publishing and crafting engaging collateral.Creativity and flexibility to adjust to new situations and changing needs.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.Demonstrated ability to receive feedback, take accountability, and continually adapt, grow, learn and improve.Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to set and adhere to schedules.Willingness to engage in "hands-on" work as needed to meet organization objectives.Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.Technical Skills Required

Skilled in using content management systems for websites such as WordPress.Experience with Google Analytics.Working knowledge of Adobe Create Suite and Canva.Proficient in working within the MS Office environment.Physical Requirements

Ability to occasionally work outside of traditional business hours, including some weekends and evenings.Ability to work independently and to supervise internal and contract staff.Must be able to perform essential functions of job.
