Mechanical Designer I
to join the
Data Center Power & Control Division Starline Team
in
Canonsburg, PA.
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for the design, development, and improvement of new and existing mechanical and electrical drawings using 3D CAD and the associated Bill of Materials (BOM) via the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The chosen candidate will work under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.
What Will You Do?
Design and document new mechanical products, sub-assemblies, top assemblies, and/or components for use in assigned product lines
Create 3D CAD models and prototypes to prove the validity of designs and conformance to regulatory standards
Maintain existing product documentation and product databases e.g. creation of engineering and operations technical documentation such as, bills of manufacturing, assembly and part drawings, engineering parts lists, models, and work instructions.
Through product design sessions, propose new and innovative solutions to customer challenges and test ideas
Assist with transitioning new products and improved products to production teams
Assist in the investigation and analysis of new materials, components, technology, and engineering practices
Collaborate with engineering, R&D and operations to support implementing new product launches, product improvements, and maintenance of line requests.
Support the development and maintenance of the VAULT structure for engineering components and technical documentation.
Pre-compliance testing of prototypes to UL 857 and IEC 61439
QualificationsRequired Skills
Education:
BS in Mechanical Engineering or Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience using Autodesk Inventor and VAULT Professional
Experience using an ERP system preferred
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Experience with 3D modeling and assemblies in a CAD environment
Familiarity with production methods such as injection molding, stampings and extrusions as well as machining and fabricating technology
Prioritizes own work to meet organizational objectives
Self-motivated
Practical understanding of design for manufacturability and automation
Familiarity with project management methodologies
Exceptional organizational, time management, communications, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
Personal Qualities/Behaviors:
Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.
Regularly required to stand; walk and communicate with others.
Ability to sit for extended periods of time
Ability to lift up and carry to 25 pounds
