Is this your next job Read the full description below to find out, and do not hesitate to make an application.Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of Manager of Media Relations to advance its reputation and impact through earned media. The successful candidate will be either an experienced media relations professional with a track record of excellence in media relations or a journalist with an extensive network of contacts and a keen sense for compelling news. Experience in higher education is a plus.Reporting to the Director of Public and Media Relations, the Manager of Media Relations will work with faculty members, university leaders, communications professionals across campus, and agency partners to advance Stevens’ reputation through high-profile media placements. This role maintains regular contact with national, local, and trade media to place stories about the university, students’ experiences, research innovations, and faculty thought leadership.Responsibilities:Maintain and enhance relationships with members of national, regional, and higher education media to pitch stories and arrange interviews.Develop and maintain media lists and target journalists for particular topics.Manage multiple ongoing media requests and respond quickly to inquiries from reporters.Draft media materials including press releases, key messages, and media advisories.Cultivate relationships with faculty and university leaders.Collaborate with content managers and social media managers to identify experts.Proactively uncover compelling stories and maintain a database of pitching activity.Respond to developing news stories and serve as the primary contact for journalists.Stay ahead of current events and trends to identify potential media opportunities.Leverage Meltwater to track press coverage and facilitate analytics.Update the university’s online news pages through the content management system.Assist in crisis situations that may require communications support.Demonstrate the highest level of integrity and professionalism.Competencies:Excellent news judgment.Excellent interpersonal communication skills.Excellent writing, research, and editing skills.Ability to work cross-functionally and take initiative.Strong leadership skills.Excellent creative and critical thinking skills.Excellent attention to detail.Requirements:At least five years of experience in media relations and/or journalism.Degree in a related major, including journalism, communications, or marketing.Experience with technology and science topics is highly desirable.Strong network of media contacts including regional and national reporters.Familiarity with media monitoring software such as Meltwater.Submission of writing samples and portfolio of media placements.Ability to maintain a hybrid work schedule.Occasional availability for events outside of regular working hours.Department:
