Job Summary:

As the Director of Music, you play a vital role in supporting the Pastor and church leadership. This role requires a structured approach to lead and enhance our worship experience through music. Musical Performance:

Lead the congregation in worship by playing the piano, organ, or other instruments during Sunday services, midweek services, choir rehearsals, and special events.

Select and prepare appropriate hymns, worship songs, and instrumental pieces that align with the liturgical calendar and sermon themes, in collaboration with the Pastor.

Vocal Coaching:

Provide vocal coaching and guidance to choir members and soloists to improve vocal technique, harmony, and overall performance quality.

Conduct regular vocal warm-ups and exercises during rehearsals to ensure vocal health and readiness for performance.

Rehearsal Leadership:

Plan and lead weekly choir rehearsals, ensuring that all choir members are well-prepared for Sunday services and special events.

Provide clear direction and constructive feedback during rehearsals to enhance the musical skills and confidence of choir members and musicians.

Musical Arrangement and Preparation:

Arrange music for various ensembles, including the choir, soloists, and instrumentalists, to create dynamic and inspiring worship experiences.

Transcribe or adapt music to suit the abilities of the musicians and vocalists, ensuring that all parts are accessible and well-prepared.

Instrumental Proficiency:

Demonstrate proficiency in playing multiple instruments, such as the piano, organ, keyboard, and guitar, to support a diverse range of worship styles.

Maintain and care for church instruments, including tuning, minor repairs, and ensuring all equipment is in good working order.

Service Coordination:

Collaborate with the Pastor and church leadership to plan and coordinate music for all worship services, including traditional and contemporary styles.

Assist in the organization and execution of special services, such as weddings, funerals, and holiday celebrations, ensuring music selections are appropriate and well-rehearsed.

Music Program Development:

Develop and expand the church’s music program by recruiting new choir members, instrumentalists, and volunteers.

Introduce new worship music, styles, and genres to engage the congregation and enhance the worship experience.

Technical Knowledge:

Operate and manage the church’s sound and audio equipment, ensuring high-quality sound during services and rehearsals.

Work with the audio-visual team to ensure that all musical aspects of the service are properly amplified and balanced.

Professional Development:

Stay updated on current trends in worship music and church music ministry, incorporating new ideas and techniques into the church’s music program.

Attend workshops, seminars, and other training opportunities to continuously improve musical and leadership skills.

Expectations for Improvement:

Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in musical performance and leadership.

Be open to feedback from the Pastor and church leadership regarding areas of performance that need improvement, including punctuality, preparation, and the quality of musical arrangements.

Regularly evaluate personal performance and the performance of the choir and musicians, identifying areas for growth and implementing changes as needed.

Additional Duties:

Participate in church staff meetings and planning sessions as requested by the Pastor or church leadership.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and ministry of the church.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a church musician or in a similar role, with strong skills in vocal coaching and instrumental performance.

Proficiency in playing multiple instruments (piano, organ, keyboard, guitar, etc.) and familiarity with both traditional and contemporary worship music styles.

Ability to read and arrange music, as well as transcribe music for various instruments and vocal parts.

Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance to choir members and musicians.

A passion for worship and a commitment to using music to enhance the spiritual life of the church community.

Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership and other ministry teams.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.

Pay:

$18,000.00 - $33,000.00 per year
