SUMMARY

The mission of Caring Hands Humane Society is through the promotion of education in basic humane animal care, to relieve animal suffering and to prevent cruelty to animals. At Caring Hands Humane Society, we believe all animals deserve to be treated with dignity and respect during all stages of life. We strive to provide the best possible care to the animals entrusted to us and educate others about the benefits of strengthening the bond between humans and companion animals.

The Director of Marketing & Development oversees public relations and marketing within the organization. This position provides leadership and is a role model within the animal welfare community. The Director works closely with the Executive Director, assisting in the development of plans and policies to enhance the mission. The Director will guide each department to develop programs that work towards the goals of the organization and uphold its mission. The Director will cover the Executive Director role in their absence.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Staff development and organizational leadership

Establish objectives and policies that support the organization’s mission and vision.

Responsible for overseeing program development.

Engender a strong customer service culture within the organization.

Provide direction and leadership to successfully implement policies and programs.

Keep shelter SOP collection up to date, create training presentations as needed, organize and maintain Google Drive files.

Provide up-to-date resources & lead in staff training.

Marketing & fundraising

Responsible for implementing new ways to garner funding for organizational needs.

Actively seek out opportunities for awareness and fundraising.

Event planning including venue booking, food & drink, & entertainment. Curate ambiance, collect auction items and vendors, contact potential sponsors, coordinate volunteer assistance, minimize expense/maximize profit.

Coordinate funding sources and needs with staff and the Board of Directors.

Develop a yearly Membership Campaign and yearly Holiday Campaign.

Design & order apparel, track inventory/ROI.

Actively create campaigns for specific shelter needs.

Communications and development

Serve as primary advocate and spokesperson for Caring Hands Humane Society.

Develop & represent shelter programs alongside the Executive Director & Outreach Coordinator.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with community partners, peer organizations, and contracted city and county agencies.

Maintain all public relations with potential and existing donors & sponsors by ensuring proper record keeping, updates to website donor list quarterly, create & mail thank you letters, maintain memorial list, and attend community engagement activities.

Ensure CHHS brand is consistent and concise across the organization and within the community.

Connect with other media and marketing professionals to keep CHHS actively engaged in media and to ensure progressive tactics are always being used.

Oversee all outreach programs and events including those carried out by the Outreach Coordinator.

Social media management / print media

Media collection & editing, content calendar planning, content scheduling/posting, content boosting, checks and responds to messages and comments throughout the day.

Act as media and marketing liaison for CHHS, which includes managing social media accounts, television/radio appearances, and press releases.

Responsible for determining best use of advertising funds, creating CHHS advertisements and communicating with media outlets.

Communicate with the outsourced website designer to maintain current information on CHHS website.

Create all print media including but not limited to CHHS newsletter, brochures, marketing campaigns, and event information. Communicate with outsourced printing companies.

Responsible for creating all photographic content used for marketing or informational purposes and for advertising animals available for adoption.

Keep up-to-date and engaging photos of pets on the CHHS site.

Adhere to and support standard operating procedures in all areas of the shelter. Meeting or exceeding the standards of the industry.

Commit to and champion the Mission and Vision Statements of Caring Hands Humane Society.

Supervision:

This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works within the Management team.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

College degree or equivalent experience.

2+ years experience and proven marketing & communication skills in the nonprofit sector.

2+ years experience in animal welfare.

Experienced in creating digital and print media.

Proficient in computer applications including the shelter system, Microsoft suite, Adobe Creative suite, and email.

Significant and proven leadership skills developed through experience in management and or non-profit management.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to communicate with staff.

Good public speaking skills.

Experience with developing and maintaining public/private partnerships.

Must have sufficient knowledge on animal behavior and animal welfare protocols.

Understanding of issues and industry practices in animal welfare.

Experience with developing & coordinating outreach programs.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment:

Consistent exposure to moderate-high noise levels (such as barking dogs, ringing phones, customers, etc).
