Job Description

Summary:

Management-level professional and administrative work, which includes managing, reviewing, and overseeing the accounting, data processing, and reporting activities for AVIS Alaska.

Essential Duties:

Assist the Controller/CFO in leading accounting functions.

Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department.

Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.

Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy.

Establish and maintain fiscal files and document transaction records.

Organize and lead process change initiatives and interdepartmental education on various accounting operations topics.

Monitor and lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, as well as develop improvements in key steps of the financial reporting calendar.

Prepare technical analysis on transactions and proposed transactions.

Maintain the chart of accounts.

Review and audit internal control systems and confer with Controller/CFO to adopt proper policies to ensure accuracy in financial statements.

Monitor and enforce policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of various accounting processes.

Coordinate, conduct, and oversee the testing of periodic internal auditing.

Assist in preparing financial budgets and oversee the evaluation of Avis’ budget process.

Develop operational data documentation and troubleshooting procedures.

Responsible for preparing quarterly taxes and overseeing the preparation and accuracy of quarterly reporting for the accounting department.

Assist in the management of insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.

Monitor debt levels and compliance with borrowing base debt covenants.

Assist in the preparation of external audits.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises the accounting department.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or two to four years of related work experience.

- CPA/CMA with experience in private/public accounting. Two or more years as an accounting manager or assistant controller.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

High level of efficiency and accuracy.

Attention to detail and the ability to analyze large amounts of data.

Ability to direct and supervise.

Advanced computer skills in MS Office, accounting software, and databases.

Analyze costs and benefits for all financial transactions on a regular basis.

Motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best candidates for the job; implement a yearly evaluation system; able to work with people from different backgrounds.

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analyses and reporting of financial data; understanding of the importance of compliance with local, state, and federal governmental requirements and tax filings.

The ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem.

Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
