ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Managing and overseeing the IRSC Public Media Newsroom and all news content - both on-the-air and online.Preparing and overseeing news and public affairs reports and interviews on issues of local and/or regional interests.Keeping detailed and current files on matters of interest and potential interests of the listening audience.Overseeing in the preparation of local public service announcements.Overseeing coverage during Special and Emergency Events such as Elections, Public Forums, Dignitary Visits, and natural disasters including, but not limited to, hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Managing and overseeing News Content on IRSC Public Media websites, including preparing and publishing online stories locally and curating stories from other statewide and national broadcast sources.Managing and overseeing News Content on Social Media Platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.Performing staff announcing duties on a daily basis.Reading “on air” local newscasts on a daily basis.Operating all studio and remote equipment.Maintaining wire services.Writing, editing, and producing in-depth news and/or public affairs reports.Conducting audio interviews.Performing live coverage of special events, such as election coverage results and maintaining an archive file of all locally produced public affairs audio reports.Developing and maintaining contacts with community leaders and activists.Developing a quarterly report on community problems and concerns and a weekly report on local programs IRSC Public Media stations broadcast to address those community problems.Required to be on call 24-hours a day, in order to provide coverage of any community emergency, such as hurricane threat, etc. and required to work outside normal business hours should a special news event need to be covered.Publishing and updating local news stories on wqcs.org website and Social Media Platforms and publishing out-of-market stories from affiliates across the country and national networks.Completing other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Station Manager.QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:Minimum of two (2) years of experience in radio news reporting.Strong interpersonal skills to include high ethical journalistic standards with the goal of providing complete, accurate, and balanced coverage of all issues.Computer literacy with strong keyboard skills.Possess good conversational “sight reading” skills.Extensive proven knowledge and experience in writing, announcing, audio editing, and production skills.Ability to quickly become well-versed on the governmental, social, political and educational entities that exist in the four-county area.Proven experience and ability to operate portable recording equipment and proven skilled in audio editing techniques.Ability to quickly learn computer editing techniques.Ability to be creative and well-organized.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be self-motivated.Possess a good sense of what is news and proven experience in how to professionally prepare news reports that are interesting.Use of “natural sound” in radio reporting as well as a good voice quality with good articulation.Valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving record.Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field from a regionally accredited institution is preferred.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires an ability to sit and stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach up, squat, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
