JOB SUMMARY:
Provides leadership and direction in the Environment of Care Safety and Emergency Management programs, Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) program and IT Telecommunications department. Manages, evaluates, and supervises activities, programs, and projects, which achieve department goals, promote safety standards in accordance with hospital policy, The Joint Commission, Title XXII regulations, and Environment of Care regulatory requirements and ensure business continuity during emergency events impacting the normal operations of the hospital. Develops and implements programs to foster a highly reliable and resilient workforce that delivers safe, timely, and compassionate patient care and mobilization services while supporting effective patient transport services. Coordinates with multi-disciplinary groups to create enterprise solutions to reduce patient and employee events of harm.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION Bachelors Degree required. Special courses in general management and personnel management recommended. Certification in related Environment of Care subjects desired. Certification in Safe Patient Handling and Mobilization desired.
B. EXPERIENCE Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive supervisory experience in Safety preferably in a Health Care Environment, leading to demonstrated fiscal, human resources and operational efficiency competence.
C. PREREQUISITE SKILLS
Demonstrated self-starter and resourceful approach to problem resolutions.
Good writing and verbal skills.
Ability to function within a high-stress environment with changing priorities.
Ability to act with sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of Hospital patients and visitors, particularly the elderly or disturbed individuals.
Sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of staff, patients, and visitors with an emphasis on good customer relations.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage in-house and contracted staff using a variety of skills to coach, develop and motivate staff to work as a team.
Ability to manage change through collaborative and positive leadership skills. Ability to successfully manage stress for self in an intermittently stressful environment.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. ESSENTIAL (not modifiable)
Provides input on Hospital’s strategic initiative and develops tactical strategies for the economic and regulatory success of the Hospital, change management, organizational re-engineering and nontraditional approaches to organization and problem-solving.
Manages oversight of the IT Telecom Department, which fields calls and emergency codes for the MarinHealth Enterprise. The position serves as a liaison between IT Telecom and external departments on PBX system performance.
Responsible for ensuring business continuity during emergency events that would impact otherwise normal operations of the hospital. The position is responsible for ongoing coordination with county administration and emergency personnel, ensuring preparedness for various levels of safety incidents throughout all locations of the MarinHealth Enterprise.
Acts as liaison for all safety-related matters both within the enterprise and between the organization and the community. Responsible for the maintenance and documentation of safety compliance, remaining up to date on all federal, state, and local safety regulations, providing updates to stakeholders, and running quarterly safety committees to ensure compliance throughout the organization.
In conjunction with hospital leadership, develops hospital-specific safety goals and objectives and department-specific goals and objectives, and establishes and implements policies and procedures for its operations including emergency response procedures specific to safety and security practices affecting patients, visitors, and staff.
Develops operating budgets and ensures that budgets are maintained. Initiates appropriate interventions throughout the year, and develops action plans when required to do so.
Develops, and track performance improvement metrics for incident reduction, employee productivity, and service delivery including implementation of advanced electronic data collection solutions.
In conjunction with hospital leadership, ensures that the organization complies with Environment of Care regulatory requirements, maintaining a state of readiness at all times. Responds to Environment of Care programmatic changes initiated by regulatory agencies, corporate safety and security or executive director team.
Participates in Hospital committee meetings as required. Attends and serves as Hospital representative on professional/civic service organizations, as appropriate.
Initiates and coordinates interaction and activities with other departments, agencies, and individuals including Risk Management, Patient Experience, Wellness Services, and Clinical leaders to promote total worker health and workforce resilience.
Conducts investigations into safety incidents working closely with risk management, human resources, administration, and department leadership. Assumes responsibility for corrective action when appropriate through interventions designed to correct safety deficiency.
