It is a place for adults to take an exercise class, an art class or dance class. A place for children and teens to experience learning through enrichment classes, sports leagues, family activities, and summer camps. The JCC is built on Jewish values but is welcome to everyone.

The mission of the New Orleans Jewish Community Center is to promote and ensure the well-being of our Jewish community and to instill an understanding of Judaism and its heritage by providing a Center where all can enjoy, learn, experience and share in quality activities in a Jewish environment.

One may argue that New Orleans is the global center of music. The first-ever New Orleans JCC Director of Music position aims to celebrate this intersection by fostering music education, performance, and artistic creation at the New Orleans Jewish Community Center with standards of excellence. New Orleans is home to one of the oldest Jewish populations on the continent and an international melting pot of musicians.

What You'll Do

Play music for the advancement of the JCC's mission as well as for artistic, recreational, and educational objectives.

Assume the role of resident artist, personally producing music and organizing its presentation and performance.

Establish the JCC as a global hub for superior music and artistic expression, upholding the highest standards of excellence.

Develop and implement music enrichment programs for the JCC's early childhood, camp, older adult, member, and staff populations in coordination with your team.

Conduct master classes.

Promote and support the development of a musical culture within the company and in the neighborhood.

Create a program for the Institute of Music.

Plan master classes with fellow musicians.

Organize musical performances for the advancement of the JCC's mission as well as for the purposes of art, entertainment, and education.

Order the development of music as art, to be performed and displayed.

Organize, plan, and oversee musical and theatrical events and programs in collaboration with your supervisor, other team members, and committee members.

Serve as the point person and consultant for the administration of the important performance characteristics and resources, such as sound, audio recording, instrument upkeep, building acoustics, appearance of the performance venue, and overall ambience.

Boost the JCC's standing and outreach by working together.

There will be a focus on the celebration of New Orleans music and Jews.

What You'll Bring

Bachelors degree in music or related field is required.

Must have familiarity with both local and foreign music; familiarity with Jewish music is highly preferred.

Have extensive experience in music education and performance.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to organize and execute work independently under deadlines; ability to work with grace and good humor under pressure. Ability to work cooperatively with other departments within the JCC.

Lead by example; follow all NOJCC policies and procedures as defined in the NOJCC Handbook and as directed by Agency leadership.
