Your Role

Gensler's team in Washington D.C.is seeking a skilled Urban Designer join our Cities + Urban Design practice area to deliver on a range of both local/regional and international high-profile public and private sector projects including: large-scale master plans, conceptual design, specific plans, design guidelines, development standards and other planning studies. Ideal candidates will possess a background in urban planning, particularly urban design, or architecture; and have demonstrated experience in planning and design projects. Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills are critical. Comfort in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is a must. Candidates should be self-starters, collaborative, and willing to supervise, train and mentor team members.

What You Will Do

Create and elevate design to envision transformational projectsJoin in project team leadership to prepare planning and design documents, including large-scale master plans, design guidelines, design standards, renderings, illustrations and other planning studiesCollaborate with team and clients to generate creative planning and design solutionsPrepare and make presentations to clients, community stakeholders, and city planning staffSupport C+UD practice area with business development effortsYour Qualifications

1-5 years of experience related to urban planning, policy, design and/or strategyWorking knowledge of planning laws, policies, and regulatory toolsExperience preparing planning projects, including: large-scale master plans, public entitlements, design guidelines and other planning studies, large scale international urban design and planning projectsExperience successfully responding to public RFPs and winning projectsProficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign)Proficiency with Revit, Sketch-Up, Rhino and/or other 3D and multi-media technologiesBachelor's degree in City/Regional Planning, Urban Design, Architecture or other closely related fieldExcellent written, verbal and graphic communication skillsPreferred qualifications:

AIA (Registered Architect, RA) and/or AICP certifiedLeadership in urban planning professional organizationsProficiency in GIS and Mapping toolsReal estate development experience and/or educationExperience leading community workshops and public presentations
