SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION: Answers emergency calls for service, operates an emergencycommunications system; types and/or enters information and other data into related equipment.Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Operates city emergency communications system which consists oftelephone, radio, teletype, and other related equipment; receives and logs messages according toprescribed procedures; dispatches police patrol officers, ambulance/fire services, wrecker service,emergency repair crews, animal control officer to locations where requested or needed. Relaysinformation to officers and supervisors regarding persons and vehicles subject to investigation;processes information requests concerning persons and vehicles through the TCIC/NCICinformation system. Gives general information to public inquiries; screen calls to determineassistance and information needed; maintains information on stolen vehicles, warrants, vehicleimpoundment, cash bond records, booking and release records; maintains complaint call files;processes cash bond receipts; prepares complaint cards for patrol officers; performs generalclerical and record keeping activities. Reports malfunctions of communication equipment;maintains security within the dispatching/records area; responsible for sound and/or visual checkson inmates each half-hour to ensure that they are safe and secure; greets citizens and providesinformation regarding the department and/or directs them to the appropriate employee. Performsother duties as required.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Ability to move about an office or building.Ability to use office machines, computers, and communication equipment. Ability to work all shifts.REQUIRED CONTACTS: Employee will work with and communicate with employees, citizens andother law enforcement personnel answering inquiries, processing information and/or makingreferrals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSKNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Ability to think clearly and speak distinctly underpressure and urgency. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and recallinformation correctly. Ability to properly handle several activities at one time; accurately transmitand receive messages; exercise good judgement in evaluation of job-related situations. Ability tomake sound decisions; keep accurate records; and deal courteously and effectively with the publicand associates.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION: High School diploma orequivalent; eighteen years of age; type a minimum of 40 wpm; knowledge of computers and officemachines.
