We are currently searching for a
Broadcast Engineer
to fill a full time ongoing contract position with our client, a 24-hour international public news media corporation.
Position is onsite in Washington, DC.
Candidates must be available for shifts to support a 24/7/365 environment; between 9am - 7pm including weekends and possible negligible travel.
About the Opportunity:
This position reports to the Broadcast Engineering Supervisor. This role ensures that on air programs as well as services provided by engineering facilities are broadcasted on time to the highest possible level of quality. This position is also responsible for maintaining, installing, upgrading, monitoring, and repairing broadcast, engineering systems & facilities.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:Ensure that the station is on air without interruption.Installs, maintains, modifies, operates, and repairs broadcast equipment and systems, including the latest multimedia technology.Working alongside others in the technical department, broadcast engineers use a wide range of equipment and systems to ensure that program are transmitted across different transmission centers at the correct times and to the highest standards of technical quality.The work can be based in a variety of locations and situations for television. Many programs are broadcast from studios, but work can also include outside broadcasts (OBs), which involve transmitting sound and images ensuring that they are relayed live back to a studio on time to the highest possible level of quality.Build and execute periodic maintenance plan, down time requirement for all Broadcast environment.Interpret and implement instructions and requests from producers, directors, and other end users.Create and update system diagrams according to system expansion and modification.Handles materials requisitions and projects requirements and study bidder proposal.Provide technical support for all broadcast areas including:
Digital server recording and play out technologiesBroadcast automationDigital archive systemsNetworkingOperating systems (MS, windows, MAC OS, Linux, etc)ON AIR graphics and creative systemsNews room systemsNonlinear editing systemLead group of engineers and technicians as needed to develop and maintain Broadcast system issues for ON AIR transmission, news and programs editing, Ingest, etc
Qualifications:
Education:
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Science with emphasis in Electrical, Electronics, Communications Engineering or related discipline.
Experience:
Minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in Broadcast Engineering and relevant Broadcast operation / maintenance in live broadcast environment.

Knowledge in conventional and modern broadcast technologies (automation systems, file based storage, Play-out technologies and On-Air Graphics)Knowledge in broadcast infrastructure and understanding for Broadcast system cabling installation requirements.Knowledge in Television systems and theory analog and digital communications and digital televisionKnowledge in Video compression including MPEG-2/MPEG-4 and SD/HD /3G/4K.Knowledge in production and post-production including studio cameras, ENG cameras, linear and non-linear editing, audio/vision mixer.Knowledge in emerging technologies within the broadcast industryKnowledge in complex technical drawings and reportsTheoretical knowledge in UPS system, ATS panels, Generators and all types of power distribution.Knowledge in basic measurement and test instruments for Audio and Video signals.
