DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Senior Telecom Designer to join our team. In this role, your responsibilities include design and documentation for a broad range of project types. Our current focus includes growing our market share in Federal and Department of Defense projects, while also diversifying into Healthcare, Data Centers, Higher Education, and Industrial sectors. You will work in multi-disciplinary, collaborative project design teams with architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and building systems engineers. You must demonstrate organizational skills, an ability to work in a team environment, and a sophisticated understanding of construction documents and constructability.

Responsibilities

Lead in the design of Low-voltage and telecommunications systems, equipment, components, and products for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes

Lead engineers and designers with the directing of activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements

Applies computer-assisted engineering and design software to complete engineering tasks, including crafting plans, updating BIM and AutoCAD detail libraries, and coordinating drawing production to align with project needs and collaborate with colleagues in the field.

Provides scopes of work, budgetary estimates, and design coordination with multiple engineering fields and subject areas, as well as the project architectural team.

Designs included Structured Cabling, Access Control, CCTV, voice and data systems, audiovisual systems, communications room layout, and building infrastructure for low voltage systems

Design experience covers several verticals including, but not limited to, higher education, healthcare, government, and commercial

Develops construction specifications and construction drawings; field inspections, and witnesses field acceptance testing; facilitates contractor coordination; and reviews contract close-out documentation

Required qualifications

Associate’s Degree in related field preferred

10-20 years of related experience which should include experience with the following systems: Data/Voice structured cabling systems, audiovisual presentation, and conferencing systems, wireless systems including Wi-Fi, public safety distribution systems, access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance systems

RCDD or CTS-D Certification is required. If certification has not been acquired, be open to dedicating time and effort to acquire certification within 6 months.

Experience with Autodesk Revit/AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office (Word/Excel). Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) preferred

Effective visual/verbal communication skills are essential. Candidates should possess a proficient understanding of the inter-relationships among design/engineering fields, clients, and constructors.

Solid organizational and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail

Ability to manage and prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines

Ability to work independently and within a team setting to support proposal-related projects and assignments

Preferred qualifications

Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Knowledge of Autodesk Revit/AutoCAD and Micro-Grid Design experience

Location

This position can be based in Pittsburgh, PA, Rocky Hill, CT or Jacksonville, Florida. The position can have a flexible hybrid schedule.

Compensation

The National salary range for this position is $104,000- $157,643. The actual salary offered will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate, and relative to salary ranges in the offering office.
