Department Summary:

MITRE’s thought leadership centers are seeking a Publications and Communications Lead to manage publications and support communications and content strategy.

You’ll work with a small team handling operations and outreach for two centers with distinct missions:

The Center for Data-Driven Policy aggregates and shares insights on technology policy with the White House, federal agencies, and Congress.

The Center for Strategic Competition spearheads the development of modeling and analysis capabilities in the area of global strategic competition.

Your primary role will be leading publication management for white papers, RFIs, and other policy documents. You’ll also contribute to supporting the Centers’ events and implementing internal and external communications plans.

Roles and Responsibilities

Leads publication management for white papers, RFIs, and other documents from concept to completion:

Facilitates content development with authors and collaborators from across the enterprise.

Ensures progress and adherence to timelines.

Ensures appropriate review of each publication.

Manages copy editing, design, 508 compliance, and web and/or print publication.

Helps strategize approach for promotion and outreach to stakeholders.

Supports internal and external events, helping to develop and implement communications plans.

Writes or copy edits newsletters, fact sheets, articles, event descriptions, website copy, social media posts, slides, video scripts, and other content as assigned.

Manages and updates internal and external websites.

Tracks and analyzes audience engagement metrics.

Demonstrates flexibility and a collaborative, problem-solving approach working on multiple projects with different teams.

Be comfortable learning new skills.

Basic Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

5+ years in a writer, copy editor, or communications role.

3+ years’ project management experience.

Proven ability to gather and assimilate input from stakeholders, exercise editorial judgment, and uphold brand standards.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications

PMP certification.

Experience or familiarity with graphic design, 508 remediation, and/or video production.

Background or interest in technology, policy, or strategic competition.
