The Studio Arts Program (https://studioarts.bard.edu/) invites applications for a two-thirds time Artist-in-Residence position in Extended Media starting in fall 2025. This position is for a 3-year contract with possibility of converting to a long term 5-year renewable contract during the second year of the hire. The 22,000 square feet of combined facilities of the Studio Arts Program at Bard include shops, a computer lab, classrooms, and generous exhibition spaces.

We seek an innovative artist in extended media/digital art who is proficient in a broad range of digital media processes which could include, but are not limited to, digital photography and image-making, computer animation, video installation, performance, sculpture, VR/AR, creative coding, and other emerging technologies, to teach digital artistic practice to beginning and advanced undergraduate liberal arts students. Candidates should be able to critique student work in a variety of mediums and be knowledgeable in the history of art and contemporary artistic practice, with particular fluency in the theory and concepts of digital media art. Responsibilities also include advising and guiding senior projects, participation in departmental critiques, and service to the college. The successful candidate will contribute energy and ideas to developing the future curriculum of the studio arts program, and to possible cross-disciplinary collaborations.

In addition, we seek candidates who are deeply rooted in practices of hands-on DIY making, whose knowledge and practice will inspire and engage students to build new skills with confidence and to work to attain fluency in both material and digital languages. We encourage candidates with strong mentorship skills who will support a strong arts education within a rigorous liberal arts environment whose work demonstrates a strong commitment to bridging equity and digital literacy gaps between diverse communities.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MFA

Minimum of three years college teaching experience

Active, strong exhibition record

Experience teaching Extended Media/Digital Art to undergraduates at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels

Compensation: $57,981-$59,589

This salary range reflects the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
