Learning Commons Writing Center Peer Consultant will hold one-on-one or small group writing appointments across academic disciplines where they will focus on encouraging students to develop their writing skills. Student appointments will be held online and in person.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Tutor students in academic subject areas.Act as a guide to help students become successful, independent learners.Utilize appropriate learning strategies and help students develop effective note-taking, time-management, and writing skills to maximize students’ potential for academic progress.Refer students to appropriate supplementary materials, equipment, and other college resources as needed.Interact as a team member with other tutors and maintain ongoing communication with the LC Writing Center coordinator.Other duties as reasonably assigned by the Learning Commons Writing Center staff.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must be able to provide oral and written responses to students’ questions and assist faculty given general guidance.Must display professionalism and confidentiality in all matters.Must be able to work with students from diverse backgrounds as well as under-prepared and special needs students.Must possess a high degree of patience, initiative, intuition, and self-reliance.Must be computer and internet proficient.PERSONAL INTERACTION Daily contact with College personnel, faculty, students, and the general public in the routine performance of duties and departmental services.SUPERVISION EXERCISED NoneREQUIREMENTS Must have SVCC faculty recommendation in a particular subject area and be a student currently enrolled at SVCC. Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. Students participating in the Federal Work Study Program are paid minimum wage and can work up to 20 hours per week. The student is not guaranteed a set number of hours per week.In order to qualify for the Federal Work Study Program the student must:be enrolled half-time (or greater) at the College (half-time is 6cr for fall/spring and 3cr for summer),be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program,be in good academic standing; andmust have eligibility (financial need) as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).Revised:
