The Design Development Manager (DDM) supports the Development team by managing the design process and associated consultants for all multi-family projects. The DDM is a detail-oriented individual who has a keen eye for design and can help make design decisions that are budget friendly and ensure Milhaus standards are being met. In its supporting role of the development activities of the company, the DDM works with various consultants, engineers, architects, governmental representatives, contractors, and brokers.

Position Functions

Solicit proposals, review scope, and contract with all consultants including, but not limited to architecture, interior design, engineering, environmental, geotechnical, moisture, accessibility, and low voltage.

Represent Milhaus in design meetings and manage consultant coordination for all projects in development.

Review all plans for constructability and ensure Milhaus standards are being met.

Maintain project design checklist and drawing deliverable schedule and demonstrate an understanding of the evolution of the development and construction process.

Assess site utility conditions and facilitate coordination between utility companies and design consultants.

Review project amenity programming and design to ensure market and Milhaus conditions are being met.

Assist development team in entitlements and approvals by ensuring all deliverables are provided and Milhaus standards are achieved.

Review and vet design changes and potential additional costs during construction based on drawing conflicts or shortcomings.

Champion permitting by ensuring all documents are submitted and pushed through for approval.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, ideally specializing in architecture, engineering, civil engineering or construction management is required.

Significant applicable work experience in real estate development, investment, planning, or construction (preferably in multi-family development).

Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time / workload.

Ability to read and review Construction Documents.

High level understanding of construction pricing to help inform design decisions.

Knowledge of project design evolution.

Ability to effectively direct and manage 8-12 consultants for each project and lead a meeting with 8-10 attendees.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Ability to prioritize tasks and tactfully negotiate priority with end users.

Knowledge of various operating systems and software products (e.g. Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, etc.) is required.

Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.
