JOB SUMMARY:

The Community Relations and Marketing Manager designs and leads communications strategies and public programs that engage highly diverse audiences in art, community, and ideas at the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum. The overarching purpose of the job is to work with the concept of the museum as a bridge between campus and the broader community, and to create opportunities for interaction among members of the campus and beyond. The position is responsible for creating and implementing a marketing and communications strategy in collaboration with the museum director and with occasional support from outside consultants. The Community Relations and Marketing Manager will build and reach campus and community audiences through public events and a lively, reliable, and welcoming communications strategy. This work centers visitor experiences with art, promotes community engagement, supports cross-cultural and intergenerational exchange, and proactively integrates a diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive (DEAI) approach to museum work. Reporting to the museum director, the Community Relations and Marketing Manager works closely with the curator of education as well as the entire museum staff and a range of campus and community partners to conceive of and collaboratively host programs and events that advance the museum's core initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILIITES:

Develop and implement a communications and marketing strategy and budget in collaboration with the museum director. May include print and digital advertising, social media, email communications, website, and production of print and digital marketing materials.Manage the design, production, printing, and distribution of all museum marketing materials including any fundraising and program brochures, promotional cards, digital and radio advertising campaigns, banners, online calendar, intercampus mail, posters, etc.Maintain email contact lists and produce e-newsletters.Run the museum's social media (Instagram and Facebook).Manage distribution of press releases to key media partners.Maintain accurate listings on the webpages, google, etc.Support donor relations and fundraising materials including donation requests and grant writing support.Conceive of and implement engagement programming in coordination with the Museum staff to engage the Museum's diverse audience of SVSU students, faculty & staff, as well as the broader community and expand access to the museum exhibitions and initiatives. Work in close collaboration with colleagues to integrate shared principles for hosting and facilitating groups in the museum.Manage requests from community organizations and student groups to use Museum spaces.Plan and host exhibition openings, typically once/semester.Liaise with campus offices to host programs as appropriate Reunions, Homecoming, and Commencements, etc.Develop and track budgets, and attendance as directed. Seek outside funding when needed.Hire and mentor student interns in communications and programs, as needed.Contribute to museum-wide learning, action-planning, and accountability measures around DEAI.Perform other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's DegreeExperience working in highly collaborative, mission-driven environmentsProven ability to host inclusive group events, from concept to implementationExperience working with youth and/or young adultsClear written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated and excellent organizational and time management skillsStrong attention to detailAbility to work weekends and evenings when requiredAble to take initiative, work independently and collaborativelyAble to translate ideas into concrete actionProficient in MS Office, Facebook and InstagramExperience creating social media campaigns & tracking analyticsProven ability to make connections with people and organizations across identities.Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree5 years related experienceExperience in Adobe Suite, Google Suite, WordPress, and MailChimp or other email communication platformKnowledge of museum or non-profit administrationBasic knowledge of Google analyticsStrong public speakerExperience advancing social equity in the artsBasic web editing experience, or confidence to learn on the jobStated interest and experience in DEAI in the arts

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are generally performed inside but include outside seasonal activities.

Some weeknights and weekends, including intermittent travel, will be required.
