The Destination Marketing and Community Relations Director will lead efforts to promote Mitchell as a premier destination for tourism, conventions, and events, while also serving as a key marketing representative for both the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce and the Mitchell Area Development Corporation (MADC). This position plays a pivotal role in driving tourism-related marketing, managing visitor relations, and supporting community events. The Director will be responsible for promoting both organizations, their members, and partners through coordinated marketing strategies that enhance visibility and economic growth for the community. Reporting to the Vice President of Relations, Communications, and Engagement, this role will work across multiple teams, including tourism, economic development, and member engagement. Responsibilities include visitor & industry relations, marketing, research, and event planning & coordination. Includes light clerical duties.Key Responsibilities:Tourism Marketing & Chamber/Development Promotion:Develop and execute comprehensive marketing campaigns that position Mitchell as a top tourism and convention destination while promoting the interests of both the Chamber and the Development Corporation.Manage all tourism-related communications, including the Visit Mitchell social media platforms, website, and email newsletters, ensuring consistent branding and messaging for both organizations.Highlight Chamber and Development Corporation members through promotional content, showcasing their businesses, services, and events as part of broader tourism and economic development efforts.Create and distribute a weekly tourism newsletter that not only highlights Mitchell’s attractions and events but also promotes Chamber and Development Corporation initiatives.Design and produce engaging marketing materials (print and digital) that promote Mitchell’s attractions, events, and the benefits of Chamber and Development Corporation membership.Event Promotion & Coordination:

Lead the promotion of community events, including festivals, conventions, and business gatherings, ensuring that marketing efforts enhance visitor turnout and member engagement.Collaborate with local businesses and stakeholders to maximize promotional efforts for events that support both tourism and economic development goals.Serve as the lead contact for key tourism-related events such as Dakotafest, Collegepalooza, and Dakotafest Women’s Brunch, while coordinating with Chamber and Development Corporation teams to ensure member involvement and promotion.Visitor & Member Engagement:

Develop programs to enhance the visitor experience by working with local hotels, restaurants, and attractions, while also creating opportunities for Chamber members to connect with tourists.Build partnerships with local businesses and organizations to offer tourism packages, promotions, or discounts to visitors, highlighting the role of both the Chamber and the Development Corporation in fostering economic growth.Analyze visitor data, member feedback, and event performance to adjust marketing strategies for both tourism and Chamber/Development Corporation promotion.Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

Work closely with the VP of Relations, Communications, and Engagement, and the CEO to ensure that tourism efforts align with the broader goals of the Chamber and the Development Corporation.Build and maintain strong relationships with tourism stakeholders, Chamber members, local businesses, and city officials to foster collaboration for tourism and economic development initiatives.Actively promote the work and benefits of the Chamber and Development Corporation at regional tourism conferences and events, ensuring that both organizations are recognized for their contributions to the community.Budget & Reporting:

Oversee the tourism marketing budget, ensuring cost-effective practices that benefit both the Chamber and Development Corporation.Prepare monthly and quarterly reports detailing the impact of tourism marketing initiatives, visitor and member engagement metrics, and recommendations for future strategies that support the goals of both organizations.Additional Responsibilities:

Promote both the Chamber and Development Corporation in all tourism marketing efforts, ensuring their members and initiatives are visible and supported.Support economic development initiatives by coordinating with the Chamber and Development Corporation teams to showcase Mitchell’s growth potential and attract new business to the community.Collaborate with other departments to ensure cohesive messaging across all promotional channels for both tourism and Chamber/Development Corporation activities.Acts as liaison between event/meeting planner and service businesses; offers suggestions and assistance planning entertainment, tours, shopping, spouse and children's programs and other attractions; solicits, collects, and files information for speaker/entertainment files.Works with groups to help promote meetings/events. Sends information about upcoming meetings, conventions, and events to the local newspaper and visitor center.Coordinates and arranges volunteers for athletic events, convention assistance (registration), stuffing baggies for conventions, assembling name badges, assembling programs, etc.Answers and routes incoming telephone calls as needed.Greets and assists clients/visitors.Maintains orderliness of Corn Palace Visitors area, stocks brochure rack in the reception area with promotional publications and brochures.Performs general clerical activities as needed including postage, and shipping tasks.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:

Experience in marketing sales, hospitality, and/or customer service industries preferred.Bachelor’s degree in marketing, tourism, business administration, or a related field.Marketing Communications experience in graphic design or PR.Proven ability to manage social media platforms, digital marketing campaigns, and content creation for multiple stakeholders.Able to use and understand the telephone system, as well as computer and office equipment.Excellent customer service skills.Willing to work weekends and evenings, when required.Physical Requirements:Individuals performing the above-mentioned responsibilities must be able to see, hear, and talk. Individuals must possess manual dexterity to perform the physical activities of reaching for and holding a telephone, typing, and filing. Performs repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers in keyboarding and computer functions. Must be able to exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, post, pull or otherwise move objects.This role is essential to elevating Mitchell’s tourism profile while simultaneously promoting the Chamber of Commerce and Development Corporation’s goals, ensuring a thriving community for visitors, residents, and businesses alike.Please send your resume to:
