User Experience (UX) Designer

We are seeking an experienced and innovative User Experience Designer to join a dynamic Randstad client in Washington, DC. This role requires a designer with over 3 years of experience in UX design, a strong portfolio showcasing user-centered designs for complex applications, and proficiency in Figma. The successful candidate will manage the end-to-end design process, ensuring that all outputs are intuitive, accessible, and aligned with business goals. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams-including designers, developers, engineers, researchers, product managers, and stakeholders-to translate user needs into visually compelling and technically feasible solutions. In this role, you will also take part in usability and accessibility testing, ensuring that designs meet industry best practices and accessibility standards. As a key player in agile environments, you will participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, ensuring that design deliverables align with project milestones. Additionally, you will contribute to the development and refinement of a scalable design system, ensuring consistency across all products. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as you will present and advocate for design decisions and contribute to an inclusive, user-first culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Excellence:
Oversee the entire design process, creating high-quality, interactive Figma designs that are user-friendly, accessible, and consistent with design guidelines.
Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, researchers, developers, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders, to gather requirements and deliver comprehensive, visually compelling, ready-to-develop solutions that drive business outcomes.
User-Centered Design:
Conduct usability and accessibility testing, incorporate feedback, and iterate on designs to continuously enhance the user experience.
Agile Methodology:
Actively participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives. Ensure design tasks are aligned with the project timeline and goals. Lead PI Planning design activities on a quarterly basis.
Documentation:
Develop detailed design principles and specifications to ensure a smooth handoff to development teams. Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs are accurately implemented.
Design Systems:
Contribute to the development of a scalable design system by creating new, reusable components and patterns that can be applied across various products.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, accessibility standards, and emerging design trends to keep the product at the forefront of UX design.Basic Qualifications:
3+ years of UX design experience, with a strong portfolio showcasing user-centered, high-fidelity designs for complex applications.
Experience working with design systems and creating components that are consistent, reusable, and scalable.
Proficiency in Figma for design and prototyping.
Familiarity with collaboration tools like Jira, FigJam, Confluence, and Chromatic Storybook.
Strong understanding of agile methodologies and experience working in an agile team environment.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present and advocate for design decisions effectively.Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the rail industry and train movement processes.
Experience designing software or applications for internal enterprise audiences.
Familiarity with usability testing tools such as dScout, Maze, UserTesting, Optimal Workshop, or UserZoom.
Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices for inclusive design.
