Director of Communications and DevelopmentFor more than 50 years, Washington County Mental Health Services (WCMHS) has served the Washington County community and the Orange County towns of Orange, Washington, and Williamstown. WCMHS provides education, support, and treatment of individuals and families living with mental health challenges, substance use issues, and developmental and intellectual disabilities. POSITION:

WCMHS is seeking a Director of Communications and Development to advance our mission by leading, managing, and implementing our internal and external communications, public relations, brand strategy, and development efforts in alignment with our organization’s strategic plans. This is a new position on our Senior Management Team and will report directly to and work closely with the CEO. In its charge to promote and expand awareness and support of the agency’s work, the Director of Communications and Development position offers an opportunity to impact mental health, developmental and intellectual disabilities, and substance use services in Vermont at a critical time, through strategic communications, public relations, and fundraising initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to a commitment to the WCMHS mission, the Director of Communications and Development must have a combination of experience, training, education, cultural competence, and social awareness that will provide the knowledge and skills to be successful in this role. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a relevant field; 5 or more years of progressive work experience in communications and development roles, preferably in the non-profit or healthcare sectors; and experience in fundraising, grant writing, marketing, brand strategy, and/or donor relations.

Additional requirements for this position include:Strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to use data to communicate value.Excellent and authentic verbal and written communication and public speaking skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, donor relations databases/software, and grant management tools.Skills in digital engagement tactics and strategies.Ability to write compelling narratives of client/consumer experiences with an ethical and trauma-informed lens.Understanding of inclusion and equity as organizational operating principles.Ability to build and leverage relationships with internal and external partners.Ability to embrace change and to work productively in a dynamic environment.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

This full-time position offers an annualized salary of $80,000 and excellent benefits, including tuition reimbursement/student loan assistance; generous paid time off; employer-sponsored health, dental, life, and disability insurances; and a 403(b) retirement plan with employer match.
