Summary

The Deputy Editor-in-Chief is responsible for assisting the Editor-in-Chief in running the newspaper. Normal responsibilities include planning story assignments and layouts, assisting writers in the completion of their articles, writing articles, and recruitment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees and assists with the overall writing of the paper
  • Meets weekly with section editors to discuss progress of the paper
  • Attends weekly general staff meetings
  • Maintains weekly-posted office hours in The Xavierite office (6 hours per week)
  • Meets and works with Section correspondents in generating story ideas
  • Trains Section correspondents on InDesign and Photoshop
  • Uploads final PDF copy of the paper to Park Press’ FTP if Editor-in-Chief is unable to
  • Meets weekly with Xavierite webmasters to ensure website has up-to-date information
  • Meets weekly with Assistant Director of Campus Life: Student Media to discuss progress on the paper
  • Writes one article per issue

Qualifications

  • MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY
  • FEDERAL WORK STUDY REQUIRED

Experience in journalism, communication, or English preferred.

Description of Hours: 6-8 hours per week
