If you would like to print a copy of this position for your records, click on the Print Preview link.Bookmark this Posting Print Preview | Apply for this JobPosition DetailsPosition InformationPosition Title Broadside Photographer (Part Time, Temporary Hourly, Non-Benefited)Classification Title T2Hourly rate, Stipend, or Load Unit $350/month paid via stipendClose DatePosition Type/Employee Class Temporary PT HourlyInstructor Status Not applicableOvertime Eligible Non-ExemptFLSA StatusCampus Location BendPrimary PurposeTo enhance The Broadside news organization content by creating original high-quality digital images for The Broadsides website, social media platforms and in special print editions.Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities+ Complete 2-3 photo assignments for accompanying stories and one standalone photo gallery, or some combination of assignments and galleries of a similar amount per week for The Broadsides website, social media channels and occasional print editions; assignments include primarily high-quality digital photographs and occasional video.+ Work collaboratively with student reporters to ensure visual content is created for accompanying stories.+ Maintain flexibility to accommodate various schedules, appointments and other time constraints that come up through the course of reporting for an assignment.+ Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.+ Be an advocate for the role and efforts of The Broadside on and off campus and display professional and respectful conduct when acting as a representative of the publication.Department SpecificKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesIndividuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform these essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.+ Knowledge of the field of journalism, especially in an online news environment, and familiarity consuming news from various sources.+ Technical knowledge of editing and photo equipment. Experience editing photos and videos.+ Ability to write and self-edit photo captions using conventions of AP Style.+ Skill in the operation of modern office equipment, software systems and standard office equipment, internet searches, Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and systems or software unique to news production.+ Skill in problem-solving, multi-tasking, and time management.+ Ability to communicate effectively with public, COCC staff, students, third party service providers and others.+ Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using English language with or without the use of auxiliary aids or an interpreter.+ Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds and other aspects of human diversity.+ Willingness and ability to travel to off-site locations and branch campus, as required.Ergonomic RequirementsWork hours are determined by the supervisor and vary based on business needs and locations. Position assignments may be assigned an alternate schedule to service the campus needs. Work is performed typically indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms. Requires near visual acuity to read written materials, write and read computer screens. Requires sufficient hearing and speech ability, for ordinary telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.Minimum Requirements+ Currently enrolled at Central Oregon Community College in at least 6 credits and registered for J-215: Publications Lab (1 credit) each quarter while employed with The Broadside.+ Experience with retouch, resize and enhance images as needed using Photoshop or other photography software.+ Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.+ Experience with or training on Google Sheets for content planning.+ Experience with or training on AP Style as it applies to journalistic writing and publication.Equivalency StatementThe College recognizes the value of skills and knowledge gained outside of formal higher education and paid employment.
