JOB SUMMARY:Greets patrons as they enter the Library Media Center. Monitors students in the library setting. Assists students and staff in locating and using library print and non-print materials, including databases, various types of audiovisual equipment and computers. Troubleshoots technology, including student devices. Trains and monitor student library aides, when applicable. Multiple clerical duties associated with library print and non-print materials must be performed reliably and accurately. Performs text book and library book inventory in alternating years. Must be physically able to lift and move heavy textbooks.

Curriculum and Instruction

Assist students, teachers, and staff, in using Destiny Library (online catalog) to locate print and non-print materials for access to educational resources.Under the direction of the Library Media Specialist, train, monitor, and evaluate student library aides. Student library aides' tasks include shelving books, mail distribution, laminating, and copying using the high-capacity copier.Assist Library Media Specialist in familiarizing patrons with basic library skills.Monitor appropriate use of Library Media Center's resources by students, teachers, staff, and parents.Assist students in maintaining appropriate behavior consistent with building policies and procedures.

Library Media Center Planning and Management

Facilitate circulation of materials and equipment using Destiny Library, perform clerical tasks as needed, e.g., distribution of overdue library and textbook notices, and Interlibrary loan (ILL) services.Assist facilitating textbook circulation throughout the school year.Assist with patron management using Destiny Library and Textbook Manager.Assist with Library Media Center setup for new school year and closure at the year's end.Process new materials as they arrive during the school year.Read shelves to ensure collection is in proper Dewey Decimal System order.Assist Weeding Library Collection in consultation with the Library Media Specialist.Repair Books.Conduct annual inventory of Library Media Center's materials and equipment.Discard old or broken equipment and materials following FUSD policy.Support various school activities as needed, e.g., senior exit interviews.Help manage Library Media Center, in cooperation with certified substitute teacher, when Library Media Specialist is absent.Creates and updates book and poster displays.

Technological Support

Circulate, troubleshoot, and maintain audiovisual (AV) equipment.Assist students with technological problems, e.g., logging in/out of accounts and printing/printer problems.Provide basic computer application program assistance, e.g., Microsoft Office.Assist students and staff in using and troubleshooting their devicesOther Duties as Assigned

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

High school diploma or equivalent certification required.College coursework, especially within secondary education, is desirable.Computer experience required, especially knowledge and use of technology and word processing programs.Familiarity with young adult literature and library systems preferred.Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.Must meet NCLB requirements. NCLB = 60 post-secondary hours of college coursework OR Minimum of an AA degree (or higher) OR Meet the minimum score required on an Arizona Department of Education approved test. Safety Requirements

May require to lift heavy textbooks, boxes of books, and cases of copy paper as well as push heavy MacBook mobile labs up/down the ramp located adjacent to the Library Media Center.
