Position is full-time, non-exempt, annual salary range for this role is $160,000 - $190,000 with commission potential above base. Reports to VP, Content & Editor-in-Chief. This is a hybrid/remote role (currently subject to change).
Summary of PositionEmmy
magazine is the award-winning trade magazine of the Television Academy, read by professionals across the television industry.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced sales executive to join our team as the Senior Director of Advertising Sales. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving revenue by selling advertising in our print magazine as well as several ancillary publications, including programs for awards ceremonies and special events. The individual will be responsible for prospecting, pitching, closing, and servicing print ad sales with local and national entertainment entities including studios, streamers, agencies, publicists, production companies, and other industry leaders.
The Senior Director of Advertising Sales is responsible for overseeing, managing, and delivering revenue from existing accounts as well as developing new business opportunities. Cultivating, harnessing, and growing strong relationships with television, entertainment, and media industry firms should be second nature. In addition to studios, networks, and streamers, this includes outreach to industry sectors such as regional film bureaus, equipment manufacturers, and more. The individual is also encouraged to pursue non-endemic categories, including fashion, real estate, travel, dining, hospitality, retail, and others with potential appeal to a readership of entertainment professionals.
Reporting to
emmy's
publisher, the role requires independent thinking, sophisticated judgment and problem-solving, and an ability to capitalize on trends in industry marketing. The successful candidate will be comfortable and confident with crafting and delivering both turnkey and custom solutions for clients and have had success crafting and executing those solutions at previous organizations.
Primary Responsibilities
Build and maintain relationships with clients to understand their advertising needs and objectives.
Successfully pitch and win new clients; grow existing revenue from current clients.
Present advertising solutions and opportunities that align with the target audience and editorial content of the magazine.
Negotiate advertising rates and terms with clients to maximize revenue while ensuring a mutually beneficial partnership.
Meet or exceed revenue targets for existing and developmental accounts, while helping to develop new assets and sales opportunities.
Collaborate with the editorial team to stay informed about upcoming magazine content and special features to effectively tailor advertising pitches.
Collaborate with the editorial team on creating the magazine from planning through final production. This includes updating the edit staff on advance status of ad sales for story assigning purposes, providing a final ad list by the deadline, providing input on ad placement in each issue and following up with clients to track down missing ad materials.
Collaborate and brainstorm with the editorial team to develop innovative ad executions in print and digital editions.
Creatively approach ad sales inventory, working with clients to help develop engaging print ad buys (bellybands, cover wraps, inserts) as well as standalone items (outserts, including advertorial booklets and other sponsored content), as well as opportunities in the magazine's digital edition.
Contribute to the development of sales and business development strategies to expand the magazine's customer base and revenue streams.
Prepare and deliver editorial and event calendars, sales proposals, contracts, and other relevant documents in a professional and timely manner.
Utilize available published information about existing and prospective advertisers to approach each with an educated sensitivity. Make presentations to advertiser's key decision makers in written and/or visual form.
Compellingly articulate the benefits and unique features of

and related publications.
Provide excellent customer service to clients. Follow up with clients to ensure customer satisfaction and identify opportunities for upselling or renewals.
Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and market changes to adapt sales strategies accordingly.
Provide regular reports and updates on sales activities, pipeline, and performance metrics to management.
Prepare for, and participate in, quarterly budgeting process, including revenue projections and forecast adjustments as needed.
Refine and improve highly polished pitch collateral.
Assist finance department with collections as needed.
Additional duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 10 years track record of success in entertainment trade publication print ad sales, including developing and maintaining a sales pipeline and closing sales.
Established relationships with industry representatives and an ongoing understanding of industry trends.
Proven decision-making skills and business acumen at a senior level, especially concerning industry advertising trends and goals.
Self-motivated and results-driven, with a track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.
Ability to think strategically and make effective business decisions, innovative and entrepreneurial mindset in advocating for sales and marketing opportunities.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate advertising solutions effectively to clients.

Ability to work independently and remotely, while also collaborating effectively with the editorial and management teams.
Ability to adapt to fluctuations in pace of frequency and workflow, as the magazine shifts from monthly to biweekly at different points of the year based on the Emmy Awards voting calendar.
