Located on one of the most sacred sites of African American history, the International African American Museum (IAAM) in Charleston, SC is a museum, memorial center, and site of conscience that commemorates the foundational role Africans and their descendants played in the making of America. Position Summary:

The Web and Social Media Editor leads the museum's strategy for and implementation IAAM's digital communications plan, which includes our website and all social media channels. Each must engage and inform current and future visitors, patrons and members with frequent posts, stories and updates. This job requires strategic awareness, interest and knowledge of the museum's mission, programs and significance locally, national and internationally. The museum's hope is for an entrepreneurial and collaborative editor who is excited by the prospect of engaging a national & international following for this significant institution.

The Editor reports to the Media Manager, who reports to the Chief Marketing and Media Officer. He or she is expected to collaborate with the Marketing Manager and Graphics Editor to ensure powerful and graphically relevant content.

Duties/Responsibilities include:Oversee the organization's web & social media strategy, including IAAM's primary website, all selected social media channels and complementary special event or program sub-sites as needed.Develop an annual web & social media plan that drives local, national, and international awareness of, and engagement with, the museum.Develop targeted web & social media updates for major exhibitions, programs and special offerings.Oversee tracking methods to measure the ROI of monthly and annual communications efforts and outreach and ensure accurate data capture and analysis.Collaborate with graphic design and video production and other IAAM content producers in the Learning & Engagement Department for opportunities to feature additional video and/or multi-media content in IAAM's web and social media presence.Source and manage vendors for specialized multi-media content, if needed.Develop an annual marketing calendar that supports a regular, enthusiastic effort to heighten the museum's visibility through major programs and auxiliary activities that provide access to the people, places, objects, and experiences behind them. Incorporate the marketing calendar priorities into web & social media plans.Help shape the public perception of the museum by developing strategies and messaging that spread the museum's mission to honor the untold stories of the African American journey at one of our country's most sacred sites.Support the Marketing department at all major museum events as determined by the CMO.Coordinate with outside consultants on website, branding, messaging & multimedia efforts as requested.Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

3+ years of relevant web and social media experience requiredGraphic design experience preferredMultimedia content production for social media experience requiredAbility to work in a fast paced, high-energy environmentAbility to develop standardized processes and workflowsAbility to think creatively, innovatively, and analyticallyExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to manage web content on WordPressAbility to use Hootsuite or some other application to schedule posts, thus ensuring that the museum has fresh content regularly on its website and social media platforms
