Job Description
AbbVie Oncology encompasses Imbruvica and Epkinly as well as future brands in the AbbVie portfolio. The Director, Brand Analytics, will consult and develop analytic solutions based on business needs across the Oncology Franchise to pull through brand strategy and tactics at a national and sub-national level.
This position’s primary objectives are to lead and develop the analytics function and team for the US Oncology Therapeutic Area and ensure successful execution of the strategic and tactical plans. This includes ensuring alignment of strategic initiatives against key stakeholders driven by strong and differentiating insights that are clearly communicated to, understood by and acted upon by the appropriate Oncology marketing and cross-functional team(s).
Major Responsibilities
Ensure the coordinated and consistent delivery of Oncology data structure, analytic insights and key performance metrics that facilitate franchise leaders to lead their business. Ensure consistent methods are deployed in areas that include data management, patient projection and patient flow modeling. Build advanced capabilities and adoption within direct and in-direct team members. Develop people in their Oncology-specific knowledge while also expanding their data analytic tool kit.
Strategy, Insights and Analytics
Continue to advance analytic capabilities within the Oncology Business Unit – developing and gaining stakeholder alignment for the vision and strategic roadmap – focus areas include Commercial / subnational analytics and reporting and in-housing analytic capabilities critical to drive AbbVie growth.
Anticipate opportunities for improved capabilities through proactive development of new data and technical capabilities working with both internal teams and external suppliers. Steal with pride.
Build out the data architecture and advance analytic capabilities that anticipate and deliver against Oncology business needs.
Progress ability to analyze and diagnosis the business to address ad-hoc questions, anticipating the most asked questions and building reports/routine analyses to proactively assess and monitor vs reactively addressing questions when asked.
Advance Oncology’s reporting and tracking capabilities, automating & streamlining to automate & reduce manual work (partnering with center of excellence standards).
Interprets research findings and synthesizes them into actionable business insights.
Significantly increases the productivity of Abbvie and cross-functional resources through effective use of external suppliers and contractors aligned with key Abbvie efficiency objectives.
Team Leadership
Lead the brand analytics team in a manner that ensures the team advances the business, guiding the brand strategy and plan with leading analytic techniques and capabilities across consumer/patient, physician, brand, payor, and channel.
Build, coach, and maintain a high-performing and diverse team of analytical, quantitative, and business-minded individuals that collectively distill business insights from commercial data sources and advanced analytic capabilities.
Coach and teach others on functional, technical, and marketing best practices, financial acumen and how to translate complicated information into compelling stories and learning.
Lead the development of state-of-the-art models that meet key business criteria (e.g., cost, risk, business impact) and key technical criteria (e.g., reliability, validity, and predictability)
Identify and articulate fact-based spending and pricing principles through detailed analysis of marketplace and consumer dynamics.
Guide franchise investment decisions from marketing mix/business optimization and other analysis.
Coach team members on franchise financial planning process responsibilities:
Pressure test and provide input to forecast assumptions based on knowledge of market, competitive dynamics, and upcoming events.
Pressure test and provide input into financial planning process, both short term and long-range plans.
Collaboration and Influence
Build highly collaborative relationships across Insights and Analytics, Market Access, Data Capabilities, Finance/Forecasting, Patient Services, Sales Operations, Consumer marketing team, Pipeline and Marketing/Sales leadership.
Demonstrate indirect influence in driving franchise success while developing capabilities within working team.
Excel in leading through indirect influence with marketing teams, finance teams, innovation team, patient services and external consultants.
Proactively educate the organization on critical concepts (both within team and outside of team)
Be an advisor to the VP of Oncology and their direct staff.
Understand Business Environment
Demonstrate strong understanding of the U.S. healthcare business environment and key AbbVie therapeutic areas to identify and proactively address opportunities and threats.
Supervisory / Management Responsibilities:
Direct Reports: 2-4
Contractors: Additional 3-6 on and offshore headcount, as needed
Qualifications
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree is required in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Decision Sciences, Operations Research, or Applied Mathematics
Preferred: Advanced Degree Preferred (Business, Statistics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology or Engineering) with emphasis in marketing/sales/quantitative analysis.
Background:
Requires 5+ years managing teams.
Requires 10+ years of experience in quantitative analysis of sales and marketing information and the use of this information in the development of business plans and strategies.
Requires 10+ years of experience in marketing analytics.
Requires 10+ years of experience in promotional data / measurement.
Working knowledge of multivariate statistics, analytical software, and pharmaceutical data sources (IQVIA, SHA, MMIT, SSR, CMS, Truven, etc.).
Intimate knowledge of the marketing, sales, logistics and financial planning processes, advanced quantitative expertise, systems understanding, and the ability to develop and use specialized analytic techniques within a business setting.
Strong visualization and storytelling skills.
Demonstrated project management skills are also required.
Strong influence and leadership skills and a proven ability to work closely and effectively with all corporate functions and senior management.
Required Skills:
Working knowledge of multivariate statistics, analytical software, and pharmaceutical data sources (IQVIA, SHA, MMIT, SSR, CMS, Truven, etc.).
This position requires an intimate knowledge of the marketing, sales, and logistics planning processes, advanced quantitative expertise, systems understanding, and the ability to develop and use specialized analytic techniques within a business setting.
Strong story telling skills; ability to distill complex information synthesized into concise and impactful messages and communications.
Demonstrated ability to manage a wide variety of analytic projects / portfolio and multiple priorities.
Adept in working with and analyzing syndicated pharma data (IQVIA, Symphony, etc)
Experience developing and deploying analytics solutions that address business needs.
Adept in navigating a matrix environment at a large company, including effective communication and influence skills.
Accountability / Scope:

Budget responsibility: $5MM - $10MM
Focus (Scope): 60% Strategic/40% Tactical
Role location: Mettewa, IL Office
Travel: Up to 10% of the Time.
