Posting SummaryRutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr Edit/Media Specialist for University Press. Under the supervision of the editorial director, acquires and evaluates manuscripts and book proposals in the fields designated.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Presents books to the editorial committee of the Press.Works in an entrepreneurial fashion towards signing about 25 titles per year, turning over to the production director between 20 to 25 titles per year.The acquiring editors, including the editorial director and director, put under contract the books that the Press publishes. Within this grade there can be variation in the level of responsibility and experience (editor or senior editor, for example).Works largely independently and has a wide latitude to negotiate with authors within previously agreed upon parameters.Generates about $300,000 of Press income each year through the titles signed.

QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience
Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience, preferably in an academic field related to the area of acquisitions for which the editor is responsible.Three (3) years of publishing experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Management experience.Strong written and oral communication skills.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Moderate level of computer literacy.Demonstrated ability to sign books across a wide spectrum of sales categories (general interest, classroom, scholarly).Must have achieved public visibility on discussion panels and must possess wide networks in publishing professional circles.Must be well-networked in the academic areas in which the editor acquires.Ability to look at systems with an eye toward improving them, and the ability to work well with a shared assistant.Strong office experience.Ability to work well with a student assistant and across departments at the Press.A list of previously acquired titles.

Graduate education with an advanced degree.Equipment Utilized
Dell desktop computer with Windows XP.Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.Firebrand (press-wide book database).CDC database (press-wide sales/warehousing system).WebEx and Zoom.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to travel, interact with others either virtually or in person.Lifting/moving of boxes of books may (rarely) be required.
