is seeking a well-qualified and experienced Materials Management professional for the position of the
Director of Materials Management.
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Materials Managementwill plan, organize, direct and supervise the operations of the Material Management division for the San Mateo Medical Center including central supply, purchasing and receiving, inventory control, contract coordination, laundry, mailroom, and transportation. The Directorprovides leadership to permanent and temporary employees as well as contractors who provide specific services. Additionally, the successful hire will assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures; provide staff support to higher-level management; and select, train, and supervise subordinate professional, technical, and clerical staff. This position exercises direct and indirect supervision over managerial, technical and clerical staff. This level assists in the recommendation and development of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities related to a specialized service or program; and is responsible for implementing these objectives.Some of the key priorities of the position include :Ensure an uninterrupted chain of supplies and services to all users, meeting clinical and financial needs of the organization.Provide excellent customer service and excellent cost management.Manage a medical supply budget including cost targets, facilitate product standardization and manage supply utilization.Lead the administration of San Mateo Medical Center's materials supplies contracts.Serve as a point focus for vendor management, supplies and services contracting, and product selection efforts for the medical center.Develop supply chain management programs for medical, surgical, laboratory, and other patient care and ancillary departments.Develop and monitor inventory management programs for key customers.Coordinate value analysis and other end-user and management teams focused on cost management and cost reduction within clinical and support services departments, including cost analysis, communication plans and components, and development of cooperative leadership with County end user management staff.Collaborate with nursing and medical staff regarding cost savings opportunities for the hospital and related areas and functions.Identify and implement price, utilization, waste management, make vs. buy, and other cost reduction opportunities with respect to supply chain and purchased services activities for the medical center.Manage compliance with group purchasing organization (GPO) contracts.Drive savings and improve financial performance through contract negotiation, process improvements, strategy recommendations, and the implementation of existing GPO contracts.Organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the operations of support services departments such as the mailroom, and courier services.Develop quality measurement and regulatory compliance programs for assigned areas, with the identification and development of relevant key performance indicators, and improvement processes.Participate in LEAN process programs for system-wide and focused performance improvement activities.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other departments, agencies, vendors, and contractors.Accurately analyze problems, identify causes and solutions, develop practical recommendations, and take appropriate action to resolve the problems.Prepare complex and detailed written reports, procedures, and contracts.Communicate effectively with diverse audiences.Ideal Candidate
