General Summary
This is skilled, creative work in the Senate’s Office of Multimedia Communications and Instructional Design. The employee must have experience designing, illustrating, lettering, painting, laying out, composing, and reproducing a variety of graphics materials and be generally familiar with multimedia software applications. The employee must have technical and creative skills in documenting legislative action and events through photography and videography. An employee in this position must be flexible and have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE: Pursuant to sections 112.3144 and 112.3145, F.S., this position is required to electronically file aForm 1 –Statement of Financial Interestswith the Florida Commission on Ethics within 30 days of hire.
Examples of Work Performed
Designs and prepares graphics for social media, the Senate’s electronic signage system, brochures, reports, booklets, and pamphlets; arranges contents in the most effective manner for presentation.
Designs, lays out, letters, and performs art work on posters, display panels, charts, diagrams, etc., for publications.
Assists in photographic and duplicating processes involved in the reproduction of graphics materials.
Plans, designs, and prepares pictorial posters, illustrations, and publications covers, using free hand and mechanical methods.
Transforms verbal information into art work.
Takes photographs and videos of legislative action, including live and still scenes in black and white and color for portraits, reports, exhibits, publications, social media, etc.
Arranges scenes and shots to be taken, selects shooting angles, determines illumination, and positions equipment. Determines correct calibration of equipment. Prepares for photo and video shoots. Cuts and edits images and videos.
Sets up or takes down lighting, background and other equipment. Researches new techniques, processes, and equipment. Maintains inventories and requisitions supplies.
Mounts photographic and other images on charts using various mounting materials.
Maintains the Senate’s online photographic library of original and stock images.
Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of graphic design formats, techniques, and composition options.
Skill in assisting with photography and videography capture, editing and publication.
Skill in using graphics software to produce graphics materials such as social media graphics, poster illustrations for print and electronic display, brochures, booklets, and pamphlets.
Ability to design a variety of graphics materials.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to secure factual information.
Ability to transform verbal information into art work.
Ability to work closely with and interact comfortably and professionally with Senators, staff, and members of the public from across the state.
The Senate maintains a fast-paced, non-traditional work schedule during Interim Committee Weeks and Legislative Sessions. Employees are expected to be available for late night and weekend work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of graphic design, graphic arts, photography, visual communications, commercial art, illustrating or videography experience.
Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
