We are seeking a Senior Packaging Designer with extensive experience working on Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) brands, particularly in the food sector. As our CPG work volume has significantly increased, we are expanding our pool of senior-level freelance designers. This role requires strategic thinking and the ability to create packaging concepts that extend across multiple product portfolios.
Key Responsibilities:Develop innovative packaging concepts that can be applied across various product types (e.g., boxes, plastic bags).Work holistically on brands, considering portfolio-wide applications rather than focusing solely on individual executions.Create primary display panels (e.g., front of a zip-top bag or front of a box) and present 3 distinct concepts to clients.Collaborate with clients through multiple rounds, incorporating feedback and refining designs (e.g., integrating different elements from separate concepts).Ensure designs adhere to legal requirements, especially for food packaging (e.g., net weights, legal descriptors).Maintain design integrity from digital concepts to final printed products, ensuring seamless transitions to shelf-ready displays.Provide guidance for junior designers who will execute final rollouts for multiple SKUs based on the senior designer's vision.Qualifications:
5+ years of experience designing for CPG brands, with strong preference for food packaging expertise.Strong strategic thinking and the ability to develop holistic brand approaches across product lines.Excellent knowledge of food packaging legalities (e.g., labeling, NLEA requirements) and how they impact design.Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, with basic skills in image retouching for presentation purposes.Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and PowerPoint to create presentations for client reviews.Ability to visualize how designs translate across different materials (e.g., cardboard boxes, plastic packaging) and product formats.Preferred Skills:
Experience working on large-scale CPG packaging projects with multiple touchpoints across a portfolio.Proven ability to create presentation-ready visuals and adapt designs based on client feedback.Knowledge of the printing process and how to ensure design accuracy from digital to print.
