**Job Overview:**  
The Artesia Daily Press is seeking a dynamic and experienced Editor to lead all aspects of news gathering, editing, and reporting for the weekly newspaper. This role is pivotal in ensuring high-quality, timely, and engaging content that resonates with the local community in Artesia and the surrounding areas.

**Key Responsibilities:**
- Oversee and manage the complete editorial process, including news gathering, writing, editing, and publishing.
- Develop and execute story ideas through proactive research, interviews, and community engagement.
- Recruit, manage, and mentor a team of freelance writers, photographers, and contributors to ensure comprehensive coverage of local events, news, and features.
- Ensure that the newspaper maintains journalistic integrity, accuracy, and adheres to all editorial deadlines.
- Collaborate with the layout and design teams to ensure visually appealing and reader-friendly issues.
- Establish and nurture relationships with key community stakeholders, including local government, businesses, and organizations to uncover important news stories.
- Stay informed on the latest trends in local news, community events, and national news that impacts Artesia and the broader New Mexico region.
- Represent the Artesia Daily Press at community events, fostering a strong presence in the local area.

**Qualifications:**
- Proven experience in journalism, specifically in local news reporting, editing, and newsroom management.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and exhibit strong news judgment in prioritizing stories.
- Experience recruiting and managing freelance contributors is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with community members and readers.
- Familiarity with digital publishing tools and social media for news dissemination.
