The salary range for this role is $175,000-$220,000.


Position Overview

The Associate Vice President, Brand & Campaigns will be a globally experienced brand and campaign leader, who will help shape the United Nations Foundation’s brand identity and deliver world-class impact-led campaigns and creative community collaborations in support of UN Foundation and the UN. They will be a champion of best-in-class creative work that further builds the Foundation’s brand reputation and helps drive significant advocacy and fundraising outcomes for UN Foundation and the UN. They will be a skilled storyteller, pitcher and doer - from quick-turnaround deliverables to large, complex multi-stakeholder campaigns. They will bring with them (and grow) a roster from across the best in the creative community (Advertising, Marketing, PR, Production, Media, M&E & Talent) to collaborate with us on major global projects. They will bring dynamic and transformational ideas to take UNF’s storied communications to the next level at a time of profound challenge and change in the world. The Associate Vice President, Brand & Campaigns reports to the Chief, Communications & Marketing Officer.


Strong candidates will bring a diverse set of skills, characteristics, and experiences, both professional and lived. They will bring a strategic and entrepreneurial approach and have a track record for developing pathbreaking brand-building initiatives with tangible, measurable and sustainable outcomes, including a portfolio of work which has captured public imagination and driven significant media coverage, reach and engagement.


They will have experience with or around the United Nations, a strong interest in global cooperation, keen political judgment, and an intellectual drive and proactive approach to motivate collective action for results, even against headwinds and setbacks. They will have had experience working in communications in political and global contexts and demonstrated savvy in achieving strategic goals with target audiences.


They will effectively use analytics and insights to optimize campaign assets, performance and results, and have considerable experience in talent management and the deployment of influencer strategies and relationships.


They will have a solid understanding of best-practice monitoring and evaluation of brand and campaign activities.


They will be creatively led, strategically driven and results and team-focused. They will be excited by ideas, and fully capable of bringing the best ones to life, in the smartest, most collaborative, efficient and engaging ways.


This position is based in Washington, DC.


Essential Functions

The AVP, Brand & Campaigns will:

  • Collaborate closely with the CCMO and the award-winning Global Communications & Engagement team, lead brand-building initiatives and campaigns across UNF and the sector.
  • Shape long-term brand, campaign and influencer engagement strategies and help foster an agency-like atmosphere that unites strategic marketing, philanthropy, and online engagement services to support UNF’s mission.
  • Forge close strategic and operational ties with UN counterparts, as well as with leaders across the international creative community, civil society and private sector to generate game-changing initiatives and next generation impact.
  • Serve as an adviser to policy and programmatic teams across the organization to help them shape their own brand-building efforts and world-class communications assets for influence and impact.
  • Proactively pursue and engage world leading creative talent and influencers, developing a roster of supporters to help UN Foundation deliver memorable and impactful content.
  • Lead the production of original creative ideas and solutions and offer expert creative campaign and brand guidance and recommendations to internal clients and senior stakeholders in a compelling, clear, and concise way.
Selection Criteria
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in creative production, with increasing responsibility and seniority – preferably in an agency or in-house agency setting.
  • Experience working with non-profit and/or multilateral organizations, with a strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of these types of organizations required. Direct experience working with the United Nations and track record of successful brand-building in an international public sector context strongly preferred.
  • Proven credibility and reputation for developing and delivering world-class brand and creative campaigns in international settings, including in challenging or complex environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and familiarity with global policy issues and trends, the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals, and related issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience in developing and executing messaging strategies for resource mobilization and fundraising campaigns.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional skills in team management, consultation, and facilitation, with a proven track record to drive and support teams in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Experience managing budgets, teams, external agencies and talent relations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong sense of integrity which underpins the commitments made and partnerships forged on behalf of the organization.
