Main Purpose of Job

This position provides support to the Director of the Office of Communications, through campaign management, community engagement and general operational support. The Deputy Director leads Comm’s administration-specific content managers in all aspects of campaign development and management to support clear, concise and consistent messaging and brand awareness across DHS’s digital and traditional channels. The position manages community engagement-related activities, including strategy development, event planning, message development, and monitoring partnerships. This position also serves a critical operational support role in the management of procurement activity, contract monitoring, communications collateral requisition and other related duties as assigned. In the case of the Director's absence, the candidate should be able to accomplish any and all responsibilities of the director. This position will require to be on-call to respond to questions or issues that emerge related to the department.

POSITION DUTIES

  1. Lead team of content managers to create and maintain quality, strategy-driven, brand-appropriate messaging for all departments.
  2. Provide operational support in the management of procurement activities.
  3. Develop and distribute communications materials.
  4. Create messaging strategies and campaigns.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in English/Writing or Political Science.
Experience: Three years of experience in Communications or Marketing.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
At least two years of experience in local, state and/or federal government in Communications.

• Personal Leave- new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date).
