Overview/Purpose:
GQ is an editorial powerhouse, with 20 global editions and 30M social followers generating 34M unique visitors every month. To help us continue to grow our audience and expand our journalism even further, we're looking for an experienced senior features editor to pitch, assign, and edit GQ's hallmark longform storytelling. Candidates should have experience and sharp instincts assigning and editing a range of features, from cultural profiles to complex narratives to investigative reporting. Extensive experience with fact-checking and legal is a must. Candidates should come with deep connections with a diverse group of freelance writers, and enthusiasm for pitching new and ambitious ideas across print and digital platforms. Candidates should also be comfortable working across multiple timelines-capable of simultaneously developing stories for tomorrow, next week, and next year, in a multitude of formats. This role reports into the Global Content Development Director and Global Content Strategy Director.
Responsibilities include:
Assign and edit print feature stories, digital-first long-form features, and moreLead story conception, including developing staff and freelance pitches and working closely with talent and visuals teamsCoordinate with our global editions to help develop features across different global marketsHelp develop story ideas for GQ Studios, our film, television, and documentary studioWork closely with Global Content Development Director and senior editorial team to program print issuesWork closely with Site Director to develop the most ambitious digital-first projectsShepherd stories through the editing process, including liaising with copy, research, production, art, and photo departmentsContribute to and help lead editorial ideas meetingsTop edit stories as neededManage global features teamAdditional responsibilities as assignedDesired skills & qualifications:
7+ years of complex feature editing experience; familiarity with InCopy/K4 a plusExperience editing celebrity-driven profiles and reportingAbility to prioritize, work well under pressure, and adhere to tight deadlinesDeep connections with freelance writersEnthusiasm and passion for GQ
The expected base salary range for this position is from $110,000-$165,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
