Summary:
The Morning Call is seeking an ambitious general assignment reporter to cover the fast-growing and diverse Lehigh County region of eastern Pennsylvania. This person will juggle breaking and trending news with enterprise pieces, covering a range of topics from development and quality of life, to local schools and education, to local government accountability. We are looking for someone scrappy who can break news, write authoritatively and craft stories that our readers can't get anywhere else in a highly competitive media market.

The position is remote but must be local to the Lehigh Valley region.
What you will do:Work collaboratively with editors, other reporters and visual journalists to tell impactful stories across all platforms that engage and retain subscribers and readersReport and write quickly and effectively to break news online; follow up when appropriate with more in-depth piecesEmploy creativity daily to develop story ideas, produce or obtain visuals, get sources to cooperate, corroborate facts and present information in the most compelling wayCultivate beats, where appropriate, and develop sourcesUse public documents and data to tell stories and hold those in power accountableMaximize audience engagement through use of various storytelling formats, including explainers, Q&As, lists, data visualizations, photo galleries, video, etc.Utilize metrics to evaluate what content is engaging our audience, and use that data to inform coverage choicesUse SEO best practices to ensure readers are finding your stories via SearchWork closely with visual journalists to provide clear explanations of assignments, and shoot your own photos and videos as necessaryMaintain an active social media presence, using various platforms to develop sources and story ideas while also promoting your contentShift gears as needed, juggling quick-hit, short-term and long-term assignments simultaneouslyDeliver on time with minimal to moderate supervision and editingWhat you will bring:
College degree or equivalent experienceSolid news judgmentDigital and social media skills, with an understanding of SEO and metricsWriting, grammar, AP style and communication skillsSpanish language proficiency, enabling you to conduct interviews and engage with Spanish-speaking sources, is a plusAbility to produce content quickly and accuratelySkilled in developing sources and cultivating expertise in your coverage areaProven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a teamEagerness to learn and develop new skillsFlexibility to work occasional night and weekend shiftsValid driver's license and reliable transportation required
