The California Children's Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) is seeking a
Full-Time Physical Therapist
to provide a full range of physical therapy treatments/services to children with physical disabilities from birth to 21 years at special education sites. The children have chronic neuromuscular conditions, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, traumatic brain injury and muscular dystrophy. The incumbents will be working on an interdisciplinary team with parents and other professionals. This is a unique opportunity to work in a friendly and cooperative team environment based at Medical Therapy Units in San Mateo and San Bruno.
The
ideal candidate
has graduated from an accredited physical therapy curriculum and has at least one year of experience working in pediatrics, with neurological and orthopedic conditions. The ideal candidate is licensed as a Physical Therapist by the Physical Therapy Board of California; has experience working with children of all ages; and is able to use an electronic medical record system. Physical therapists without pediatric experience and/or new graduates are encouraged to apply. Lastly, the ideal candidate would be interested in expanding their knowledge regarding therapy intervention and treatment for various diseases.
Physical Therapist I, CCS ($45.61 - $57.03 / Hourly)
is the entry level class in this series. Under immediate supervision, incumbents perform the full range of general therapy treatments while developing and learning the skills to apply more advanced and/or specialized treatments. This class is flexibly staffed with Physical Therapist II, CCS and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher level class.
Physical Therapist II, CCS
($51.12 - $63.90/ Hourly)
is the experienced journey level class in this series. Incumbents in this class perform the full range of general therapy treatments with a greater degree of independence and proficiency, additionally applying more specialized and advanced therapy treatments. Staff may also provide technical advice and training to less experienced staff.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Under medical direction, plan and perform physical therapy intervention for children with physical disabilities.Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive treatment to children.Administer physical therapy treatments in accordance with a prescription from the orthopedist, neurologist, pediatrician or physiatrist.Provide therapeutic activities to increase strength and endurance and improve coordination, balance posture, breathing, functional mobility and gait.Design and monitor classroom and home positioning programs and exercise or activity programs.Recommend seating, positioning and functional mobility devices and orthotics.Design, fabricate and monitor lower extremity orthotics.Instruct parents and classroom personnel in the use of lower extremity orthotics and equipment.Design and construct, or supervise construction of, specialized equipment or orthotics.Provide expertise regarding therapeutic management during clinic, staff conference, Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings, and parent meetings.Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of the child's response to treatment in accordance with state California Children's Services standards.Participate in discharge planning and refer parents to community services.Determine need for department and patient-related supplies and equipment.Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas.May participate as clinical preceptor in a university affiliated physical therapy student program.Perform related duties as assigned.
