Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. Probationaryappointment leading to a tenure decision. 1.0 FTE.The Department ofArt is seeking an artist whose practice is rooted in graphic and digital designand who would be able to develop and teach a rigorous design curriculum.The ideal candidate should possess the ability to teach at all levels ofGraphic Design and integrate various areas of practice into the curriculum. Thenew faculty member will be part of the Experimental Art and Technology area, aninterdisciplinary emerging technology focused area in the Department of Art. Weare seeking candidates who are passionate about teaching at the undergraduateand graduate level. The teaching load is two courses per semester (2/2). Alongwith the prioritized 2/2 teaching load, service and on-going scholarship isexpected, concurrent with the teaching load.The University of New Mexico(UNM) is a Research 1 institution that offers support for faculty research. UNMis a designated Hispanic Serving Institution and has a Carnegie CommunityEngagement designation. The University of New Mexico's Departmentof Art is the only department at UNM that regularly offers specialized graphicdesign courses. Graphic design courses, which are in high demand from studentsacross the university, serve students in Art, Architecture, Community andRegional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Communications & Journalism,BAIA (Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts), and more. The University of New Mexico's Department of Art is part ofthe College of Fine Arts, whose internationally recognized programs, faculty,and staff provide a comprehensive education in both the visual and theperforming arts. The Department of Art offers the B.A., B.F.A., M.A., M.F.A.,and Ph.D. degrees. Resources at the University include the UNM ARTSLab, atransdisciplinary research facility and exhibition space with an emphasis onimmersive and interactive technology.Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:M.F.Ain Graphic Design, Digital Design or related fields (by time of appointment).
Two years cumulative university-level experience as instructor of record.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated interestin contributing to a contemporary interdisciplinary setting in an atmosphere ofclose faculty-student mentoring.Active exhibition or publishing record.
Conversant in contemporary issues of critical theory, design and aesthetics.
Expertise and ability to teach the following in digital software and publishing:layout, typography, basic illustration, digital imaging, branding, motiongraphics, coding, UI/UX.Ability to provide mentorship to graduate studentsacross disciplines.Excellent communication skills and an interest incollaboration.A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
