Position Summary
The Communications Associate will support the Communications Manager in a comprehensive communications strategy designed to tell the ISANA story and elevate the amazing work of the ISANA students, educators, parents, communities, and champions. This position will support the Communications Manager in story brand marketing to implement unique marketing campaigns network-wide and assist in developing annual marketing and communication plans.
The Communications Associate will report to the Communications Manager and assist the Communications Manager in strategic communications, day-to-day media relations, PR efforts, project management, and maintaining the school's website content.
This role requires a demonstrated ability to take initiative in a team-oriented environment. It also requires an energetic professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and has a strong willingness and desire to learn.
Department Goals
Assist in supporting the capacity of ISANA schools to understand and effectively respond to media within their context and communities.Assist in the creation of banners, flyers, brochures, and newsletters.Assist in preparing the organization's communications calendar.Assist in maintaining ISANA's dynamic, relevant, and content-rich website.Communications Associate Responsibilities
Assist the Communications Manager with items to raise ISANA's visibility.Assist in engaging ISANA partners in sharing their stories through social media, letters to the editor, op-eds, blog posts, and other appropriate media.Assist with photography of special events, performances, and other activities as requested.Assist the Communications Manager with ISANA publications, including web pages, social media, publicity materials, official documents, advertising, and marketing materials.Encourage media stories and respond to requests for information that effectively convey ISANA issues, objectives, and accomplishments to the public.Assists in carrying out external communications publications.Assists in creation of brochures, pamphlets, and related information materials.Assists in planning and carrying out special events to support department functions and activities.Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the program/department.Assist in the production of marketing content as needed, including emails, product messaging, web copy, print collateral, social content, photos, graphics, and videos.Assist in the production of promotional materials, films, and other multimedia projects.Possess a working knowledge of basic WordPress web development, photography, and videography.Assist in the coordination of multimedia components of meetings, galas, and student performances within the visual and performing arts department.Assist in the production of promotional materials across all mediums (online, video, print, live events, performing arts, etc.) and implement standards across these various platforms and channels.A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPointA working knowledge of Adobe Premier and Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, and PhotoshopQualifications
Qualifications
Bachelor's or associate degree from an accredited university in one of the following: communications, journalism, broadcasting media, marketing, public relations, or a related field.One year of experience in public relations management, public information, public affairs, journalism, marketing, or a similar occupation preferred.DESIRABLE: Experience in a school district, municipality, or public agency.Clear Tuberculosis and Livescan Fingerprint Screening.Skills
Ability to communicate in written form utilizing a journalistic and technical writing style; translate ideas and suggestions into an effective marketing campaign; gather, analyze, evaluate, and interpret information and data; prepare effective oral presentations; maintain the confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information; organize, edit, and layout publications.Cultural competency for working with divis desirable from various backgrounds and communicating in more than one language desirable; strong interpersonal skills; comfortable delivering on short deadlines and ability to work on and prioritize multiple short-term and long-term projects simultaneously.Photography and videography skills.DESIRABLE: Basic knowledge of the WordPress web development platformPhysical and Environmental Elements
This position may include long periods of sitting or standing in an environment with moderate noise levels and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. This position is frequently required to stand, sit, or walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with arms.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read printed materials and a computer screen with the ability to adjust focus.Communication skills required by this job include the ability to hear and speak.Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment.The position occasionally bends, reaches, pushes, and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information and lifts and carries items that typically weigh less than 20 pounds.The position requires the ability to occasionally travel by train, plane, or other means inside and outside the Los Angeles area.May have occasional exposure to irate parents, staff, and public and private representatives.
