As part of the engineering organization, the design team (http://nutanix.design/) is seeking a strong staff designer for the San Jose office. We are looking for someone who is recognized as a product expert and known for their design leadership within the product.

We are a hybrid first company. This position will be based in San Jose, CA being onsite 3+ days a week. We work collaboratively across functions and geographies.
Your Role
Generate customer insights and influence feature direction.
Create innovative product experience journeys spanning one or more products, gets it on the roadmap and drives to make it a reality
Develop and operationalize customer insight generation activities for team
Guide designers across Geos and provides leadership across multiple concurrent projects with complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires both broad and in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
Take ownership to lead design projects by collaborating with the broader designers, Product Managers, UI developers, back end engineers and other Engineering leaders
Facilitates design sprints, workshops, and brainstorming sessions
Motivates and drives consensus across multiple functions (PM, Engineering & Design)
Define the direction of our flagship product’s design as a part of a multidisciplinary team
Work with UI development and backend engineering teams to ensure effective execution of designs
What You Will Bring
Be a natural leader and passionate designer
Preferably have a strong design portfolio of enterprise projects
Have an ability to challenge status quo with attention to detail on implementation and micro-interactions
Have hands-on experience in applying agile methodology in the design phase
Able to work effectively in a fast-moving environment, juggle multiple projects, and prioritize work
Stay current on technology trends to inform and inspire modern design
Has strong Presentation and Communication Skills
Must present and communicate their design work to all stakeholders
Able to explain rationale for design decisions within a larger context. Regularly communicates project status and shares design iterations
Understands the mission and goals of design and is able to communicate this to product teams
Actively influences decisions on products and solutions objectives and design methodology
10+ years of user experience in enterprise product/ consumer product company
Experience in enterprise product industry is preferred
Passion for design, telling customer stories, and simplifying the complex problems
Strong working knowledge of latest wireframing/ design and prototyping tools
Familiar with usability testing (in person and remote), user research, contextual inquiry, interviews, qualitative design analysis, and design thinking
Strong written and verbal communication skills, Able to work cooperatively and communicate effectively
Bachelor’s degree or advanced degrees (Masters, PhD, etc.) in Design, Interaction design, HCI, or related CS/design field
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 182,400 and USD $ 364,800 per year.
However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
