Located in Coyote Point Park in San Mateo County, CuriOdyssey has undergone a major reinvention and full strategic planning process that has transformed the organization into a vital, kid-centric interactive science center and accredited California native animal wildlife zoo that provides up-close and personal experiences with the natural world. The organization is comprised of a strategic and engaged Board of Trustees, visionary executive leadership, and a talented, energetic and entrepreneurial staff.POSITION OVERVIEW The Digital Marketing Manager is an exempt position that is responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives related to the management of content and communications for CuriOdyssey’s marketing campaigns across all channels (web, social, email, etc). This role involves independent analysis, decision-making, and strategic recommendations to build museum attendance, revenue, and brand awareness. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Marketing, the Digital Marketing Manager plays a key role in developing strategy, managing external communications, and supervising key department operations.ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Digital Marketing and Campaign ManagementIndependently develop and digitally distribute marketing communications in support of strategic goals. Collaborate with internal teams to meet organizational goals and fact-check communications with subject-matter experts for accuracy and authenticity. Develop campaign briefs and monitor KPIs.Manage social media channels to drive awareness, engagement, and registrations in support of CuriOdyssey’s programs – create content, respond to comments, monitor mentions.Create blog posts (or coordinate guest posts) reflecting expertise in STEAM topics, thought leadership in early science education, and commitment to our mission.Curate a digital editorial calendar, scheduling social media posts, e-newsletters, and blog entries based on strategic plans and seasonal needs.Manage projects and publish a monthly email newsletter to opt-in subscribers and members and monthly renewal emails to members.Design, generate, and edit graphics, video reels, and photos for use on social media, in line with brand standards; maintain and organize digital assets in shared folders; secure permissions for user-generated content to share across CuriOdyssey channels.Facilitate onsite digital and print signage to reflect upcoming programs, events, and opportunities to engage with CuriOdyssey.Execute Google Grant implementation with a third-party vendor, helping shape marketing and exhibition strategies.Work with contract media buyers on paid social media, digital display ads, asset trafficking, etc. for specific advertising campaigns.Oversee the daily maintenance of the website, ensuring timely updates and the publication of content.Strategize goals and seasonal needs by managing regular updates to the website.Ensure website compliance with CuriOdyssey Brand and Style guides and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and compatibility across all device types (mobile, tablet, computer, etc).Manage communication with IT support for necessary back-end updates and/or troubleshooting.Monitor web traffic and analytics for actionable insights and trends.General Marketing SupportMonitor and route inbound marketing and communications inquiries from internal and external partners.Provide staffing support for events such as member mornings, First Fridays, and outreach activities when necessary.Autonomy in RoleExercise discretion and independent judgment in matters of significance, such as digitally marketing strategies, CMS and other systems optimization, and data-driven decision-making.Lead the development of new social media and digital marketing communications, including applicable data analysis that affect the broader organization.Provide strategic input into broader organizational goals, such as special exhibits and rotating exhibitions, based on independent analysis and trends.SKILLS AND DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Motivation to work in a mission-oriented, nonprofit small museum and zoo.Strong decision-making, strategy implementation abilities, and leadership skills.Strong writing and editing skills with a portfolio of marketing copy that drives proven results across campaign channels.Ability to manage and apply voice, tone, and style guides and visual templates.Excellent analytical skills and ability to use data to measure results.Proactive, strategic thinker and creative problem-solver.Well organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Responds quickly to time-sensitive queries and successfully conducts business in a fast-paced environment.Strong interpersonal skills; desire and ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with staff, vendors, and outside partners. Ability to work both independently and as a team member.Management and growth of a micro-influencer social media account (5-10K followers).Web CMS systems (WordPress) current knowledge and experience.Photo-editing software, graphic design software (Photoshop, Canva, Figma, other) current knowledge and experience.Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Workspace proficiency. Familiarity with Asana is a plus.Must work in-office at least 4 days per week. Able and willing to work occasional early/late/weekend hours as needed.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following education and/or equivalent experience:
Minimum three years’ professional experience in marketing or promotions; and undergraduate degree, preferably with coursework in marketing, communications, journalism or related area of study OR equivalent work experience.Experience at a non-profit organization or visitor-serving organization strongly preferred.Experience in email marketing and social media marketing.Experience with event marketing and SEO/SEM a plus.
