Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
Working in concert with the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Relations, the Director of University Communications is responsible for the overall planning, organization, direction and execution of North Carolina A&T State University's integrated marketing communication strategies.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of University Relations is the central communications unit for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. It is responsible for an integrated marketing communications program that includes internal communications, publications, graphic design, social media and digital communications, media relations, advertising photography, videography, brandmark licensing, executive communications, script and copy writing and special events support. It plans, creates and executes in support of the A&T strategic plan.
University Communications is a sub unit of University Relations tasked with publications, A&T Magazine, graphic design, photography, brandmark licensing and internal communications dimensions of UR responsibilities. It is currently comprised of four positions: the director, a graphic designer, photographer and writer. It relies on colleagues both in a highly integrated UR department and across campus to meet its responsibilities and drive communications in support of the A&T strategic plan.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, graphic design, English or a related field from an accredited institution and at least five years of relevant professional experience, ideally in public relations, publications, graphic design and/or digital media with some experience in higher education.
Must have exceptional writing, editing, presentation and oral communication skills; demonstrated creativity and initiative in working within an organization or for a communications agency in execution of outstanding creative content; demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with peers and others throughout an organization and externally; and thorough working knowledge of digital and print media and the practice of public relations, preferably in a collegiate setting.
