Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Strategic Content, the Staff Content Producer develops content for a variety of platforms in support of a comprehensive earned media and content strategy designed to increase brand awareness, earn media coverage, drive page views and other engagement metrics, and generate organic website traffic that helps the institution reach its strategic enrollment goals.

Utilizing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices, the Staff Content Producer handles multiple strategic, on-brand content assignments simultaneously as part of a creative, fast-paced team that adheres to today's 24-hour news cycle and college admissions and enrollment trends.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create on-target and engaging SEO-optimized content - including but not limited to news releases, faculty expert content, research summaries, announcements, social media content and strategic enrollment content for assigned beats/areas of specialization digital and print newsletters, brochures and other marketing materials.
  • Apply insights from content performance metrics to maximize the impact of content.
  • Produce content that delivers institutional brand messages, aligns with brand voice, and supports the specified outcomes of specific initiatives.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, including administrators, faculty and other key personnel, within assigned beats/areas of specialization to ensure a consistent stream of high-performing content that furthers strategic goals.
  • Exercise strong news judgment and consistently monitor the news cycle to identify opportunities to position the institution and faculty as experts in earned media outlets.
  • Assist with writing for video and marketing projects such as advertising copy and video scripting that fall within areas of specialization as needed.
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge in search engine optimization, writing for the ear, application of content performance metrics, use of AI, and job related tools and methods.
  • Attends and participates in meetings or events related to assigned responsibilities. May serve on standing and ad hoc committees as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience directly related to the position.
  • Ability to produce or edit compelling, effective content writing with close attention to audience, goals, messaging, tone and accuracy.
  • Ability to produce content targeted to multiple audiences for a variety of uses across paid, earned, social and owned media channels.
  • Strong project planning and management skills management.
  • Ability to juggle multiple assignments and make sound decisions under pressure
  • Current knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) strategies and best practices.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively in developing and recommending potential content ideas.
  • Superior writing, proofreading and editing skills; knowledge of AP Style.


PREFERRED:
  • Substantive knowledge of the higher education sector, including undergraduate and graduate recruitment.
  • Working knowledge of photography, videography, PhotoShop and web content management/publishing systems.
  • Strong competency using MS Word, PowerPoint and Google Drive.
