Salary: $15 hourly

Job Title: Teaching Artist (In The Schools)
Reports to: Site Lead - In The Schools
Pay Classification: Part-time Seasonal Independent Contractor; Monday through Friday, between 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

 

Organization Description:

Artists ReEnvisioning Tomorrow Inc (ART Inc), founded in 2018 by Jonathon and Nikki Romain, is Peoria’s foremost arts and culture non-profit organization. ART Inc provides arts education opportunities to nearly 500 students each year. The staff, board, volunteers, and teaching artists of ART Inc work tirelessly to generate programs for all students to imagine, create, and realize their full potential through the arts, regardless of their ability to pay.

 

Purpose:

The Teaching Artist is responsible for teaching arts education classes to K-12 students in our In The Schools program. The Teaching Artist will develop weekly lesson plans that introduce students to an artistic discipline. Lesson plans must be interactive, grade appropriate and designed to showcase students’ artistry, classroom experience and approach to arts-integrated school based work.

 

In partnership with Peoria Public Schools, ART Inc. provides teaching artists and program educators for their Schools after school programs. Must complete and pass a background check.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Educate and actively engage students
  • Create a consistent, positive, and nurturing environment with procedures and expectations
  • Communicate regularly with ART Inc, 21st Century Learning Centers, and Full Service Community Schools Staff regarding status of program
  • Classroom maintenance, including supplies, attendance rosters, etc
  • Develop and execute lesson plans, curriculum, and project based learning within an artistic discipline
  • Monitor student activity and maintain a safe atmosphere and learning environment
  • A love for the arts and working with young people
  • Complete proper protocol for fingerprinting and background check through Peoria Public School district office
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisor Relationship:

The person designated to provide supervision of the Teaching Artist and from whom the Teaching Artist takes direction in all matters related to carrying out the duties and responsibilities described in this position description is the Program Coordinator.

 

Work Environment:

This position is multi-site, meaning that work generally takes place in multiple locations and requires independent travel to approximately 4 Peoria Public School locations.

 

Mental and Physical Requirements:

Physical effort is light, with lifting or carrying limited to 25 pounds intermittently as well as walking up and down stairs. Occasionally, there is pressure associated with project or activity deadlines.
