The DivisionThe purpose of the Building and Safety Division is to ensure the safety of the public, buildings, and structures through the enforcement of building codes and regulations.
The PositionAs the entry level class in the technical series, the
Engineering Technician I
(GIS)
works under immediate supervision, performing variety of routine technical duties in maintaining and supporting City and departmental geographic information systems (GIS) and GIS databases; uses standard GIS tools and generates standard GIS products.
The
Engineering Technician I
(GIS)
performs duties primarily focused on GIS data creation and maintenance to support departmental and City-Wide geographic information systems capabilities. Incumbents utilize standard GIS tools and utilities to enter and correct data in GIS databases, researching a variety of source documents to verify data accuracy and completeness, and to generate standard GIS products including maps. Work assigned involves proficiency in the use of basic to standard GIS software, tools and utilities to carry out assignments ranging from basic to routine and is performed following specific and detailed instructions as to methods, procedures and guidelines.

Education and
ExperienceAny combination of education and experience that would have provided the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Equivalent to graduation from high school, including or supplemented by courses in algebra, geometry and trigonometry; and one to two years of experience in civil engineering or related drafting work, surveying work or customer service/permitting work.
Vocational training in drafting or computer-aided design and drafting
is desired.
License and/or CertificatesMust possess and maintain an appropriate, valid driver's license.
