Position Details

The Department of Film, Animation and New Media within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position beginning August 2025 to teach in the areas of digital film production and post-production with an emphasis on narrative filmmaking technique.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. With key responsibilities in the areas of teaching, scholarship and service to the University, the successful candidate will hold expertise and teach in areas of cinematography, production and distribution, and producing for the screen. Teaching responsibilities include introductory to upper-level courses.

We seek a colleague who will engage in fostering the growth of student creative work. In the classroom, we expect this level of hands-on mentorship to include in-class workshops, labs, and demonstrations centered on digital cinematography, G&E demonstrations, industry standard nonlinear editing software, production and post production sound, directing the actor, and providing industry standard guidelines on managing a film set. An ability to teach advanced cinematographic techniques in green screen and other more advanced virtual reality modes is encouraged. The successful candidate will be an active independent filmmaker with a continued commitment and contribution to the field evidenced by production, screenings, or other relevant intellectual contributions. A firm commitment to one's scholarship and personal work is required.

The department of Film, Animation, and New Media offers a robust slate of courses and programs. We offer both a BA and BFA in Film and Media Arts- these programs will house the primary courses the successful candidate will teach. We also offer a BFA in Animation and a BFA in New Media. The department also participates in two different interdisciplinary graduate programs.

The candidate's service to the University will include sharing in ongoing department responsibilities, advising students, serving on university committees, attending department, college and university meetings and events, and more.

Qualifications
A terminal degree, MFA preferred, in film production, digital arts, or a related field and evidence of individual artistic achievement. Prior hands-on teaching experience is also required.
