Emory University's Oxford College invites applications for a director of its Writing & Communication Center and tenure-track assistant professor of English in Rhetoric, Composition, and Writing Studies to begin August 2024. We seek a teacher-scholar invested in the liberal arts who will direct our Writing & Communication Center, mentor undergraduates through advising and other work, and teach writing and rhetoric courses, including first-year writing and the first-semester Discovery Seminar . The teaching load for the Director is two courses per semester, including the one-credit, tutor-practicum course. In addition to teaching and administrative work, successful candidates will be committed to ongoing scholarship, preferably with the potential to involve or mentor students in undergraduate research, as well as service to the Writing and Communication Program (https://oxford.emory.edu/academics/writing-and-communication-program.html) , General Education Program (https://oxford.emory.edu/catalog/academics/gep-requirements.html) , and beyond.

The Director will oversee the Oxford Writing & Communication Center (OWCC), which supports Oxford students' development as flexible, thoughtful communicators across diverse languages, cultures, disciplines, and modes. The Director will recruit, train, and supervise undergraduate peer consultants and embedded peer fellows attached to communication-intensive courses; teach an experiential (https://oxford.emory.edu/academics/resources_support/gep.html) tutor-preparation course; develop and assess OWCC goals and programming; consider and implement ways to enhance diversity, inclusion, and belonging among students who work in and use the OWCC; oversee OWCC operations and student employment budget; and collaborate with related units. The Director will remain current in writing center scholarship through conferences and publication and will mentor undergraduate research among consultants and fellows where practicable. The Director will work closely with the Director of the Writing & Communication Program to further the campus culture of writing and provide ongoing vision for the OWCC. The Director reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and receives shared/part-time administrative support from Academic Affairs.
