Job Overview:

Serves as a noticeable community safety presence in matters relating to Tampa Housing Authority security. Promotes a safe environment for Authority residents, employees, and visitors to Agency offices and properties, by responding to calls from residents, observing assigned areas, talking with residents, and taking appropriate action. Maintains detailed records of activities and prepares periodic reports.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

Safeguards residents, employees, and assigned areas including buildings, equipment, and property by investigating reports of criminal activities from various sources and informing appropriate law enforcement and Public Safety Manager of findings.

Notifies law enforcement and property management of suspected criminal activities, and follows up with property management to ensure safety issue is being resolved; interviews residents or witnesses to further assist law enforcement when requested.

Conducts security rounds of building and grounds, including stairways, parking areas, hallways, etc. Identifies unsafe property conditions, illegal or abandoned vehicles, illegal activities, and takes appropriate action, in accordance with established procedures.

Monitors incoming and outgoing traffic and notes any suspicious activity.

Promptly responds as needed to alarms and safety/security calls; and investigates disturbances. Interviews witnesses and conducts and documents routine investigations of incidents.


Required Qualifications:

Education level

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security or a related field; or graduate of a recognized police or law enforcement academy.

Experience

One (1) year of experience in law enforcement, crime prevention public safety or the security field.

Physical abilities

  • The work environment includes working inside and outside walking on foot patrols.
  • Ability to physically restrain individuals, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position.
  • Ability to sit; stand; reach and grasp; operate office equipment; and attend onsite and offsite meetings.

Certifications

  • Class D Security License
  • Level II Background Clearance.

Licenses

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Insurable under the agency’s insurance policy
