HireMinds is collaborating with a pioneering biotech team in San Francisco that is at the forefront of integrating generative AI with synthetic biology. We are looking for a talented Scientist specializing in Computational Biology and Protein Design to join their dynamic team.


Position Overview:

As a founding team member, you will be instrumental in designing and engineering proteins tailored for specific functions, including DNA editing and effector molecules. Your expertise will drive the computational design and development of proprietary DNA effectors, positioning you as a key contributor to this growing startup. In this role, you will apply your extensive knowledge of computational tools and protein biochemistry to enhance protein functionality, collaborating closely with both machine learning experts and experimental platform teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize proteins using advanced computational techniques, focusing on generative AI models for experimental validation.
  • Lead data-driven projects, transforming biological insights into actionable strategies, and effectively communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to the scientific community through research and development, with a proven track record of publications, patents, or other impactful contributions.
  • Simplify complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences, including project and leadership team members.
  • Analyze protein design challenges based on functional requirements, biochemistry, and sequence homology.


Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Machine Learning, or a related field, coupled with industry experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals.
  • Demonstrated expertise in generative AI applications within synthetic biology or protein engineering.
  • Hands-on experience engineering gene-editing tools such as nucleases and integrases.
  • Proficiency in homology-based and structural bioinformatics methodologies.
  • Previous experience in scaling a young biotech company is a plus.


Compensation: $130,000 - $170,000 base salary + Comprehensive Benefits Package, including health insurance and 401(K) contributions
